I was lucky enough to be at a talk the other night where the speaker showed some work by Alfred Buckham which really amazed me.

He produced some incredible images and showed tremendous courage too - he survived 9 crashes, had his voicebox removed after one and the nearest he got to health and safety consisted of tying his leg to a seat to stop him falling out the plane!

There is a site showing his work here http://alfredbuckham.co.uk/

Very interesting, ta for the link.

The first military use for aircraft was photo reconnaissance. Could you imagine going over enemy lines at about 100mph with an early box brownie. No guns (well maybe a service revolver)

Caught a few glimpses (had visitors) on the telly last week of some Red Arrow's chaps doing aerial photography from an old biplane with a plate camera. It did not look like fun and would be even worse with people shooting at you.

:) Ta for the link. I do like aviation and aerial photographs. A treat to see such an early aerial picture of Lincoln too.

There is a cool one with a battleship in front of the forth rail bridge.

Nice link, very interesting.

Fred Zinn was another WW1 aviation photographer, but I can't find the link I had that talked about his exploits.

That was a great find, cheers
Love the old boys spirit and photography, amazing fella
