my first attempt at e6 , a total failure. What happened here? Ive got 2 more rolls to try, first one is a dead-un! It felt like it was on the spool correctly, the temp was pretty good throughout. The wash stages may of been a couple of degrees out but the chem stages were all within half a degree of 38. Gutted tbh.

just noticed that the text on the side is clear and crisp which suggests the dev was ok!?

Steps were...

1. First Dev 400ml for 6 min 30 constant agitate. Using a jobo CPE2
2. Wash warm water 2.30
3. Colour dev 400ml 6min constant agitate
4. Wash 2.30
5. Bleach Fix 400ml 6min constant agitate
6. Wash 4min
All the washes had a water change at 45 sec intervals
7. Stabalise 400ml for 1 min

Ok....
I haven't done loads of E6 developing.... but...
My solutions were for 500ml...
Times were the same except my first dev was for 6min 15 sec...however, agitations.... mine, and all I've read said that agitations were constantly for the first 15 secs, then once every 15 sec, I did not remove my Patterson tank from the water.

That looks to me like the film was touching where it has not developed properly.

I would guess that as soon as you put some liquid in the tank(?) the film stuck together and didn't allow the developing solutions to circulate/move/replenish across those parts of the film.

I only ever reel/tank developed 35mm so getting that on a reel must be very difficult

never had a problem loading the reels with 120. Its always gone on smoothly. Something clearly went on in the tank. If the spool somehow worked loose it would of sat still while the tank rotated, the patches all sit on top of each other when rolled up but as there is clear text all the way along the strip its just odd. I'll try hand developing a roll tomorrow.

I'd agree with David thst the film has been touching while its in the tank, buckled enough to touch, the only reason the text down the edges are unaffected is because its in the tracks of the spool so is processed properly
