I recently took a set of photos at the halfords tour series and as the light faded, I popped on my flash (jessops 360AFD). It was set to e-TTL metering on the flash and second curtain firing on the body.
However i've just been going through the photos and it was definitely firing first curtain as (annoyingly, i was trying to avoid this) the trail emerges from the main image and goes forwards in the direction of movement. (i could post an example if you need it)
I was wondering, is this because of the way e-TTL works, in that it doesnt know the flash time until the shutter is already up so it has to fire first, or could it even be that I was panning faster than the cyclists where going past me?
I must admit they were flying along and i had to spin very quickly to keep up
