I've been watching a set of Kenko extendsion tubes, which were described as unused. So they were second hand. Missed them, but they went for £99 + £4 postage, making £103 in total. This is mad, because I can buy them new for £103, including warranty. thinking.

I sold some £40 two way radios on ebay for £48 many years back, I even put the retail price in the description. You do get strange people
 
Some people may only have PayPal funds left ;) or don't scan all the shops to see where is cheapest. Or just get caught in the moment.
 
certainly difficult to get a bargain off ebay
I have watched stuff go for as much as it can be bought for new too
 
And sod's law, whenever I sell something on ebay, I get naff all! Funny old world.
 
I had a couple of fuji camera batteries on ebay a few years ago, 1 went for £11.95 + p&p and the other went for £15 + p&p and they'd only cost £6 for the pair off the first site on a Google search. Amazing!
I still do browse ebay when looking for camera gear, I got a great Canon 50 1.4 the other week for around £200 and it's as sharp as a tack. Much better at 1.4 than my 1.8 was when stopped down.
 
eBay effect - because it's eBay, people think they are getting a bargain.
 
people who use ebay seem to be very one tracked...i saw a 100-400 go for 20 less than you can pick it up new...but when I sell something...no where close to how much i want...lol
 
One thing I've found when selling is that it makes a huge difference when your item is finishing. Sunday night and monday mid to late morning used to be the best times for the items I was selling; some weeks I'd get more sales ending on those two periods than the whole of the rest of the week.

The only bargains are items that are under/mis described or listed in completely the wrong category.
 
The things that help me get good prices;

- High feedback at 100% with a lot of sales
- Very good photos of item (surprising how many people sell a £500 item and only have a poor camera phone shot of it taken in a dark room!)
- Ending in the evening (think Sunday and Thursday for some reason)
 
Ebay - good for buying - crap for selling due to high fees.

They are some good bargains on there - just hard to find them.
 
I paid £5 for a 20p bolt - no way would I let anyone out bid me ;)

My wife bought me a bean to cup coffee machine off Ebay for my birthday.

I was well chuffed but took a sneaky look on her feedback to see how much she paid. Although it was brand new (private seller) I just couldn't hold my tongue when I saw she had paid the same as it cost from Amazon with 2 years warranty.

Absolute madness ... and she's a seasoned Ebayer. :shrug:
