Dxxmit - My mac mini 2012 just died!

Bad news. At least your new external drive should be faster with the replacement. Another Mac Mini?

Not had it from new to be fair, but had it about 3 or 4 years and been great as a media server

Yep, already bought another off ebay and will put the 2 ssds and the 16GB ram straight into it :)

Well, "new" 2012 mac mini's arrived, boots up and works, so now to rip out the 4gb and replace with my 16gb and take out the old 500gb hdd and replace with the 1 and .5TB ssds and see what happens.

If you've not already tried, worth just plugging the power supply from the new one into the old one - just in case it's a simple PSU failure.

you mean the plug lead? I've already tried that, that was step one and made no difference.
 
Following on though, took an hour but im all up and running again, only change was for the ip address in my remote management :-) £60 well spent!
