I've just started using Photolab v5 in earnest and I've a couple of questions to ask of other users.

How do you cull your images in Photolab? It's easy enough to select and remove individual images but when you have a couple of hundred bird photos, most of which are useless for one reason or another, that can take forever.

And secondly, there doesn't appear to be an index in the online Photolab manual. How ever do you find the topic you need to know about?

I wonder if there's a need for a dedicated Photolab thread here for questions like these?

I don't use DxO PhotoLab to cull images - it's too slow. I use Nikon's NX Transfer (part of the NX Suite) to download images from my memory cards onto my PC hard drive and (at the same time) to an external hard drive. Once all the images are on the PC I use FastStone image Viewer (http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm) to cull those I don't plan to edit.

I would use PhotoMechanic (https://home.camerabits.com/) but at $140 I think its a bit expensive for what I want to do with it.

Personally, I'm hoping they will eventually include some kind of DAM module in the not-too-distant future - but I'm not holding my breath :(

RE: the on-line manual - I downloaded a pdf version which isn't any better but at least you can use the search function in Adobe Reader to find what you're looking for :)

Hope that helps.

I think I have or had a copy of Faststone viewer somewhere but never used it......culling was easy enough in Lightroom. I'll have to search it out again.

I hadn't thought of using the search function in Adobe Reader. Thanks for the suggestion! It's actually a bit of a relief to find that i'm not the only one having problems in these areas with Photolab.

Many thanks again, Steve.

I use fastoneviewer to pick out which images I want to keep copy them to another folder the delete the original one
