I have quite a bit of dust inside the front element on my 100-400mm, i am thinking of selling it, do you think it would benefit me to get it cleaned before i sell it or should i just whack it on ebay like it is?

Anyone know how much it costs to get it cleaned at Canon?
Do you think i would manage to get this much extra back in the sale?

Thanks :)

Depends on the price you want to sell it for and the amount it would go for as is and or after service. Try fixaton. Coast me just under £300 for service and repair last year for mine, that was a new focus and IS system motor.

I recently had a money spider in my 300mm f2.8is had partially set up a web and died slap bang suspended by its web in the middle of the lens, was not noticeable to me in images,

Sent to lehmanns for cleaning £165 inc vat away for 3 working using Canon CPS

Delighted

Can anyone else recommend a lens / camera cleaning service? My hubby is a fire investigator and his D90 and lenses are SHOCKING. Even he says they need a clean with soot inside the front elements. Problem is the lens is fairly low end so I guess it might be cheaper to just buy a new Nikkor 18-70 f/3.5-4.5 especially as his idea of wiping the lens is to get a tissue out of the box (he doesn't get near my kit....)

I was going to use Park for my D300 when I'm down there in August.

I'm not sure you'd make it back in the sale

Does it affect your images adversely? I used to get hung up about dust on lenses/sensors - but most of the time, it's not an issue. Unless it's really bad, it's a 2 second fix with the clone tool.

Mention it in the sale, knock a few quid off if you have to but save yourself the hassle.

I agree a replacment lens is probably a better solution, pick it up second hand to save a few pounds and then it won't matter when it also gets completely knackered with soot. I might be in a similar line of work as your "hubby" ;)
