Hey all,
Im getting lots of sensor dust even at f/4 on my 5d.

Is this normal? Thought it was usually at f/22 it was obvious? :(

Was planning to take it for a pro clean anyways, then just keeping the one lens attached. Does anyone know of anywhere in herts to get this done while I wait?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried giving it a blast with a rocket blower whilst camera is inverted
 
Something that size must be nearly visible to the naked eye, have you tried a quick puff with a rocket blower?

Just opened it up - nothing visible - there was a spec on the rear element of my lens. Wouldnt have thought this would be visible?

Will go shopping for a blower tomorrow. But it is really worrying me as I thought that at f/4 you wouldnt be able to see it?

Is there anything else it could be?
 
It looks like dust bunnies if you angle the camera with the lens off against some light looking at the shots you should be able to see some of them.

But I would not worry, once you get the blower give it a good blast whilst inverted, then take a shot at something like F22 to really show them up and see if you have reduced them.

Sometimes I have to repeat several times to get the best results.

Thanks Nigel - just taken a shot at f/22 and 5 seconds - looks as if you are spot on (excuse pun). The specs exactly line up! Bah well - anyone know of a herts cleaning service?

I had a bunny once that showed at F2.8! bunnies do seem to show at much larger apertures than lens dust. Get that blower and give it a good ol clean, but blow the camera cavity first, to make sure thats as dust free as possible before doing the actual sensor. If that doesn't get rid of them all, then it might need a wet clean, but wory about that afterwards. ;)

I purchased a rocket blower at my local shop today for £7 and after about an hour of cleaning, taking an f22 pic then reviewing on mac, it is all clean and spotless!

Im tempted to just leave the 24-105 on now and sell my 170-500 to save all these bunnies attacking my sensor! Does anyone else do this? (keep the one lens on all the time)?

nope, dust is a fact of life, I couldn't be limited to one lens by the threat of dust, I just ignore it till it needs a clean.
You ought to shoot both lenses now with a clean sensor, I don't know if you swapped glass during your dust spotting, find out what is in the lenses, if anything.
 
I've got a 5D too and learned how to clean my sensor!

I use dust aid which is a dry clean and it's ever so easy (though not cheap) You just attach little sticky pads to a plastic wand and go over the sensor picking up the bunnies.

I must have cleaned both my cameras at least 5 times now with a kit that cost £60. The cost of cleaning one camera is £30 plus vat so I reckon that's actually saved me quite nicely :)
 
Best to try and change your lenses with a little care and quickly, dust is just part and parcel of have the DSLR. The blower will move most stuff, I normally have a sensor clean once a year and just use the blower the rest of the time.
