Evening all. Can anyone give me a location where I can park here out of hours. As the car park isn't open and everywhere seems to be double yellow lined! Thanks in advance!

If it helps Jake, co ords are 50.629674, -2.268101. It's not a nice hike.

Next time I'm heading down there is around Dec 20th to try and get the sun coming up through the arch. Tonight might have been good as there is a bit of lightening across the bay.

I was planning the exact same trip. If you would like some company, I'll come along the same time as you!
Tonight would have been very good. No lightning where I am, but it was very frequent where the girlfriend is in Winchester.

Yeh sure :) unless some christmas type crap gets in the way :)

Looking at TPE it should be the weekend of the 14th or 21st.

Hopefully one of the mornings will be clear.

As long as it's all clear, I will head down on the 14th, if not, or if I'm not happy with the shots, I'll be back on the 21st. Christmas crap is definitely on hold while I do this!

That was New Years day this yeara few days after the landslide that wiped out the steps! quite a hike from Bristol but oh so worth the result. I hope the weather is with you and look forward to the picture

I'm heading over on Saturday (07/12) clouds look okay and sun isn't up until just before 8.

I'm wondering whether I should go for it, or save my fuel for the following weekend when it is looking a better chance. It's about a £30 round trip and I'd have to shoot and come straight back with things to do. Next weekend I have the whole day on the coast.

It's only going to get better but as it's just down the road for me i'm going to take the chance and hope the weather/cloud is good

I'm working nights in Newton abbot for the next 2 weeks finishing 5-6am so its tempting to shoot across and have a go. Be knackered mind

Great shot Kev, just awesome. I'll be heading there morning of 22nd and/or maybe 23rd. And if there's not too much cloud, probably at night also to get some of those incredible astro shots. Does anyone know what the best times of night are for an astro shot? Ideally I'd like to grab the sunset, then hang around for a bit and then do some astro shots. But I'm guessing in the dead middle of the night is best when its darkest, at like 2am?

If anyone's interested, here's some of the photo opportunities nearby: http://www.shothotspot.com/hotspots...lace=Durdle+Door,+Wareham,+United+Kingdom#map

Check the moon forecasting before making a decision, if there's a full moon you won't be able to get those shots. It's pitch black around 8pm these days, so after that you'll be fine. Bear in mind it's sunrise for the durdle door shot, not sunset.

That and the brightest part of the milky way wont be visible until next June'ish. Damn Northern Hemisphere...

Went this morning, got to the top of the hill and realized there was far too much cloud, turned around and came home :(

Always next time :)

Right, I'm going to make it my new years resolution to bag one decent astro shot, and I think durdle door is the location. So there must be a couple of magic days in June, when the milkyway is in the right place and there's no moon. By the way if there are any astro-rookies like me, this video is great:

And by the way, if anyone needs a place to stay near by, my dad and his wife run a guest houst nearby (in Wareham). Or there's also the Worgret Manor hotel just down the road from him

So i went this morning, a little bit of sun was coming through, but .... the amount of people there trying to get their shot was surprising. Some people just did not give a monkeys if you were taking your shot. Anyway the best of what i did manage to get
