Hi gang

I’m going to make a trip down to Dungeness later tonight to catch the sunrise and do the boats on the beach photographs. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while now.

I’ve had a look at the location via Google earth so I have some idea what’s down there but has anyone got any tips or any knowledge they would like to share with me on anything to look for. After I’ve done the boats I’m going to spend a few hours in the area just looking for a shot or 2.

Many thanks
Debs

Hi Debs, Hashcake and myself went down there early one morning this week. We parked about half way down the coast road and walked towards the power stations. There are two lighthouses( which was my reason for going ), loads of boats ( working and wrecked ), and a couple of interesting buildings. We then drove East towards Dover where we found a strange Martello tower being used as a dwelling ( about 7 stories high. ) Hope this is of some use. Rob

Haven't been for a while, but some of the dwellings there are interesting along with the little trains on the Romney,Hythe and Dymchurch Railway as are the lighthouses

Hi Guys

Thanks for the pointers. I got to Dungeness at about 4am this morning. Seems that 198 mules of the trip down there was nothing but clear sky, stars and an almost full moon. The last 2 miles or so I drove into a thick bank of fog!!!

Never mind, I took the opportunity to have a good look around and I have to say, the place is wonderful and so strange. So many contrasts, look one direction and there’s a huge flood lit nuclear Power Station looming out of the fog and look in the other direction and there’s what I can only describe as a battle field of the UK fishing industry with dead and dying fishing boats lying around it. A place that has had quite an impact on me.

I’ll be going back soon in the hope of getting a good clear morning but in the mean time I managed to get a few moody abstract black and white shots of a few of the boats so the 400 mile round trip was not a total wate of time.

Take care
Debs
