I currently have a Moto G5 that is 2 Nano SIM & Micro SD card, though I added the SD because the phone memory is so limited.

I have been looking at the newer Moto (Lenovo) models and they it seems no longer do the 2 Nano SIM & mSD card variant for the UK market.

Yes, I can get one that will take Dual Nano or Single Nano & mSD in place of the second Nano SIM....these phones go up to 128GB memory.

So, perhaps I am just stuck in the older tech 'thinking' and the 128GB memory obviously is very large and I could of course transfer stuff to the PC as & when required ;)

Sorry that was a bit of rant but why have they stopped selling dedicated Dual SIM versions and shifted to the so called Hybrid Dual SIM variants in the UK

My Samsung is dual SIM, as are some of the dirt cheap Nokia's, so there are devices out there.

Do please say which Samsung model it is and can it also take the mSD card ?

I have an older Samsung A70 which is dual SIM and supports microSD at the same time.

But my understanding is that the newer equivalent models (eg. A52 and A72) only support a single SIM when the micros SD is used.

So I think you have to be careful checking the specs.

I just bought 2 new POCO/Xaiomi phones in the last fortnight. Both have a dual SIM carrier that takes a memory card too. The POCO M4 pro has been down to £149 recently, and works really well. The X4 5G was £189.

I've looked at Moto a few times, but still prefer Xaiomi.

I have been in touch with Motorola about a specific model where the website data on Motorola UK and Lenova was in conflict about the Dedicated Dual & Hybrid Dual SIM

I have been assured that by the Part no. for that model it does indeed take 2 Nanon SIM & and mSD in the same tray.. This in in writing from their support desk so if wrong they will arrange a collection & refund!

This is a 5G capable phone but a 5G SIM can only occupy/work as 5G in one slot. Therefore @ancient_mariner are your phones 5G capable and have you found them backwards compatible i.e. are you using a 4G SIM in them???

TIA :)

PS reading about the POCO/Xaiomi they use a bespoke version of Android. I very much prefer a more 'Vanilla' Android and Motorola have that AFAIK.

I too have moved from a moto G5 to a Moto G 5G and it is a pain when we have two sims.

If you go for the 128gb version I think it should be sufficient.

The M4 is 4G, the X4 is 5G, but I'm using it with a 4G SIM and it's been really good - better reception and apparently faster data transfer than my previous Redmi note 5. We don't have 5G where I live and probably never will (the walls of my house are too thick to let the signal through). I bought the M4 pro for my wife (8GB/256GB) using a discount voucher. Got fed up waiting for another offer to come along to buy the same, and so instead got the X4 (6GB/128GB). It's a little bigger, slightly faster processor, does 4 days moderate use on a full charge. One of the really great things with both phones is the AMOLED display, which is fully readable in direct sunlight. The fast charging is nice to have too. M4 charges at 33 watts, X4 at 66 watts.

Good point about the MIUI launcher. It's not the standard Android launcher, but it's quite usable. My previous phone used MIUI 12, and this is on MIUI 13 which is distinctly more customised than the previous example. I spent an hour going through app permissions, turning off adverts, uninstalling junk apps (like netflix, games etc) and setting up which apps could use notifications. After a little while the supplied system stops being obvious, especially since I mostly use non-system apps anyway.

FWIW our previous phones were both Xaiomi Redmi Note 5s - now more than 4 years old and giving 2 days use from a single charge. Last security update late 2021, running Android 10. I changed because battery life wasn't what it had been and occasionally my screen would get a little glitchy (started a few months ago). This is the longest I've ever had a mobile that remained fully functional and useful.

I have ordered one from Motorola and shall see the exact spec of what arrives in due course i.e. will it tally with the support advice.

It is memory wise 6/128GB so way bigger than my current Moto G5 with its 15GB of memory onboard.....though I added the SD card which is 60GB and only half full. NB I installed it as extra memory not contiguous memory with the phone. I struggle at times to free up phone memory to ensure the phone runs smoothly :headbang:

Edit ~ it runs Android 12

I should have added both SIMs are PAYG ~ Three & GiffGaff.

When I bought my last Three top up voucher in the Three Shop the assistant mentioned a Contract for £5 per month = 1GB of Data and unlimited calls and texts. Looking at the frequency of my topup's it might make sense.

However, I looked at the roaming costs and though we don't travel many times abroad it is £2 per day to roam....I think on my PAYG I just pay more per text, call etc. I think last year when in the Channel Islands I used in total about £11 of my PAYG credit and most of that was occasional data usage.

So a 10 day trip abroad would cost £20 in roaming charges :(

Wow, for PAYG mine on 1p mobile is absurdly cheap compared to that.

I have a £10/month SIM with Giffgaff = unlimited calls and texts, 15GB data and free roaming in Europe. In france a few weeks back I set up the phone as a hot-spot and we both used roaming data for our computers (speed was great too - much better than expected). My wife has the £6/month otion with 500MB data & free roaing.

When I first got the Three SIM it was their 1,2,3 SIM (1p/m phone, 2p per text and 3p per MB of data) but in 2019....I think it was? they increased the costs by a marked amount :(

The one thing I like about Three is that the credit never expires, whereas the GiffGaff credit needs usage no later than every 90 days!

I spend approx £70 per year on Three PAYG so the £5pm contract is worth it on that basis. But your info about GiffGaff looks worth investigating.......???

my xiomi is dual sim or 1sim/micro sd i use it for my uk/greek sim and its a banger

Plenty of Xiaomi models all with dual cards and decent spec. I would always pick one over Lenovo. Always had far fewer long term issues with the former, or less built in obsolescence to be specific
