...Wait...its not a debate as such....
I'm off to ireland in the morning for 5days...how will I cope without TP?
Anyway, what I am wondering...I will probably try and take some photo's out of the coach window....so, would you use the DSLR with the 18-55 Or....the point and shoot [7mp with 10x optical zoom]?
I'm unsure if anyone will be sat next to me. BUT i know for definate upon booking, I asked for a window seat...

What would you use?

Im not really sure, just take both !

I'd also take both

Something worth bearing in mind:

I recently went on a coach tour & it had tinted windows, this reduces light levels quite dramatically & as you are "on the move" you'll need a high-ish shutter speed to catch a few shots - this is where the low noise/high iso DSLR may be most advantageous !!

It also depends on the weather too, sorry can't suggest anything for that ;) Have fun !!

And Dellipher goes for the title of 'Most Thread Starting Newbie' - the crowd goes... quiet:lol::lol::lol:

You have 2 major problems dear - you're moving pretty fast and the glass you're shooting through reflects you & your camera's own image back at you

So, (assuming you don't want blurred landscapes?) you need the highest shutter speed you can get, and aim for above 1/500th methinks

Put the camera (whichever) right up to the glass you're shooting through to cut down or remove the reflections. Using wider apertures will help make the window out of focus and give you a higher shutter speed. A Polariser would help here but as you haven't got one, it matters not

If the point'n'shoot allows this much control it'll be fine, otherwise the DSLR

Can't wait for your next new thread, along in about 5 mins??? :D

If it's a trip about taking pics, then as many options as you can carry has to be the way to go. If it's not a trip about photography (yes I'm told these do exist) then go as minimal as you can. Having to lug camera stuff about can really get in the way of enjoying whatever you're supposed to be enjoying.

I recently spent a week shooting in the highlands and small islands with a lots of stuff to carry. I ended up taking a coulple of eos bodies, 5 lenses for them, my maniya 645 and lenses for that but the camera that bagged the most keepers was my little panasonic lumix.

There's a moral in there somewherer. :lol::lol:

It is a holiday, but I will be coming home with lots of pics. So to me, its a photo holiday....I will probably take both....:D

I best be quiet now 'cos dave says I cant start any more new threads....so looks like I best go shopping instead.

You can start as many threads as you like dear - but ladies do NEED shopping trips too!

And I didn't say you 'couldn't' but I was looking forward to your next - but soon

Have fun in Ireland - but be quick processing them if you're going near a coast (that's the next club comp)

Well yeah, I suppose...I spend too much money these last two days...oh-well!
 if noone else is posting threads and things, I need to post to keep everyone else entertained...I'm doing the forum a favour! :p

I will be going to dingle, so will be near a coast...when do the pics have to be in by? and printed?

It'd be easier to call me Adele!

However, as I'm waiting the return of wifey from Leeds, I'm a here presently. The answer is B&W prints, no bigger than 20x16" (usually mounted, I can get you a board or two if needed) and they are handed in before 8.15 pm on the last Thursday of this month - try for something with good composition and drama and you'll not do too badly - oh, and make sure it IS B&W!

If in doubt, view this comp as your first and just come along to see where you would have come had you entered

Cheers

I'm off there a week on Monday plus Ring of Kerry. Never been to Ireland before - hope to get some good shots!
