I was just wondering how it affects a dslr when it is used almost exclusively for video work rather than stills photography. We're all familiar with shutter count being used to give an indication of how much use a camera has had, but is there any similar measure for video work?

I wouldn't have thought it'd matter too much. The shutter's only opening for the start of the footage, and closing at the end, so it's hardly putting any mechanical strain on the camera at all, compared to shooting stills.

Thanks Lee, but would there be some kind of spring or other mechanism holding the shutter open during this? I'm just wondering if it might affect the shutter speed accuracy on stills photography.

I don't know if it's a factor or not, but I wonder if the sensor is affected in any way by prolonged periods of exposure. Without a video enabled DSLR (unless I magic lantern my 50D), am only mildly curious about this.
