Guys,

Some advice please if you don't mind?

I have been a Nikon user for a few years but last year I traded up and got a Fuji X100. I was really sold by the fast prime the size and the traditional controls, but alas some of the niggles make it just too frustrating to own as primary shooter - slow AF in low light up close, rubbish manual focus ring and my wife (who shares the camera) gets really frustrated with it.

As a result i'm looking at getting back into the DSLR market. For my budget I would be looking at a D7000 or a second hand D700. I enjoy using an old Minolta film camera and enjoy the fulll frame photography so FX would be my ultimate goal.

My plan was to get a D7000 and start collecting some FX glass and then migrate in a couple of years when a reasonable consumer FX camera is released, however, i've read about some D7000 focussing issues on fast wide primes and as this is where I want to be going I don't want that to catch me out.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Cheers

Dave

I've had no problems focusing with my d7000. I imagine there are a few bad ones, but not as many as the Internet would have you believe.

Only times I've had inaccurate focus (which isn't often) I've put it down to technique or me doing something silly. Which I imagine is also the cause of 90% of the focus complaints out there that have jumped on the "my camera is broken, omg what a rip off, nikon is scamming us" band wagon.

Well said.

There are now getting quite a few s/h D700 out there, probably from people who brought the D800. I have had my D700 for a few years now and love it, so if finances allow, go for it.

Yes the internet does tend to inflate these issues, thanks for the input.

If you want to move to FX just spend the extra and get the D700 now, no point in going DX to only switch FX in a little while.

Guessing an extra £500 is out of his budget if asking about 7000 or 700?

D700 around £1200 ? - D600 just over £1200 at Panamoz

Yeah - i've seen the D700 a bit cheaper which made it closer to the D7000 price.

Hmm depends what quality you want I think.
