Hi everyone,

looking for DSLR microphone at less than £30 if possible. Planning to take video (kind of reviews) to post on youtube so quality needed :) Microphone won't be used outside, just in the office.

Checked ebay and see some options:

#1 TAKSTAR-SGC-598: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TAKSTAR-S...Canon-DV-UK-/131081966089?hash=item1e85181209

#2 Boya-Pro: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Boya-Pro-...der-DSLR-DV-/291333390681?hash=item43d4d2c159

Wondering if anyone on TP using those? or is there any other options I could look at?

thank you

Going to be looking for one myself soon so interested to hear how you get on.

Been looking at the TAKSTAR-SGC-598:myself, wonder how much difference to the one you bought.

Says stereo in the description.

maybe im mixing something up now :) i looked trough several microphone reviews so could be just mixed up ;) Anyway Takstar 698 ticked all boxes for me, but will test it next week to see if it's any good :)

watching both and awaiting your report.

The main reason to buy a microphone like these isn't that they're inherently higher quality than the on-board microphone on your camera, but because you're able to get them off of the camera and closer to the subject. For dialogue especially, if you have the microphone just sat on top of the camera then you're going to see a very negligible improvement, but if you for example stick it as close as possible on a stand under the frame, or a boom arm over the frame, audio quality will be drastically improved. You can get a suitable cable extension on eBay/Amazon for £2-3.

Of course, if you're taking in environmental sounds such as ambient noise at the beach then it's a different matter. Hope this helps!

Depends on what kind of mike you are after. For example a stereo mike or a directional mike. Quality always comes at a price, so I opted for a Sennheiser MKE400, but that is well out of the price range you asked about. The sound quality is hard to better. Do have a think about the distance as well.

Just one other point that I discovered. If using a small lens wide open the mike may appear in the top of the picture. So I found one of these to raise it up higher (see between camera and mike)
. I had this problem with my small camcorder as can be seen used in the top photo. So with camera noise I found it best to try and keep the mike a bit off the camera

Here you can see the possible problem without it
