I have had a few DSLR's over the years. But, last one i had was. 550D. I have had a 500D and a 50D.

That was about 8 years ago! Since then i have been using my mobile.

I want to get a DSLR again. Canon too as my daughter has a 500D.

I want to go 2nd hand, maybe MPB as bought from them before.

Budget approx £150 for the body.

As for lens, i loved my old 50mm 1.8. So, looking to go that route. I see STM version is the one to go for?

Any advice be great for Canon body.

Will be using for holidays and general stuff. Ta

The 650D was the first in the series to have a touchscreen, it also has a swivel screen, and you would be familiar with the controls, and it is probably about the top on your budget,

I got rid of all my Canon gear recently, but I kept the 650D and some lenses, firstly it ended up being the most used, though it was not the best out of them, and secondly my daughter has Canon, so does my youngest son, and my eldest daughter and grand daughter so it was convenient to keep one for "question time"

When I had Canon DSLR's I loved the old Sigma 50mm f1.4 so I can understand you wanting a 50mm but that leaves the question of APS-C or FF and personally I'd go FF every time if at all possible for that wider FoV with the 50mm lens.

I don't know if your daughters lenses will all be compatible and if not I suppose that could sway your decision.

The budget is a problem though. Having had a 5D I don't think I'd recommend one to anyone other than someone who simply must have one :D and the 5DII will very likely blow the budget... but you never know, you may find a bargain 5DII and if not there is always the venerable 5D.

Good luck choosing.

The EF-S fit lenses don't fit full frame Canon DSLRs, which use the EF mount. So if your daughter had EF-S lenses and you want to share then you'd have to go with a crop sensor. On the other hand, EF lenses fit both crop sensor and full frame Canon DSLRs, so your daughter could use your EF mount lenses if you went for a full frame Canon DSLR, although the crop sensor would apply a 1.6x 'magnification' to them, so a 50mm EF lens would look like an 80mm.

I doubt a good (by today's standards) FF Canon DSLR could be had for your £150 budget anyway, so you'd get more bang for buck with a crop sensor DSLR. Hope this is useful.

The op might find an original 5D within budget.

I've had my time with them and I wouldn't have another as even my MFT cameras are IMO superior but if we're talking £150 Canon DSLR's I think the 5D may well be worth looking at considering what else, Canon DSLR wise, you'll get for £150.

Here's a link to a well knows used kit seller...

Looking at what's available there, I would take the 5D at that sort of money especially to use with a 50mm. I prefer the 50mm FoV to the 80mm you'd get on APS-C.

That's just me and other views are available :D

Good luck choosing Raincloud. Have fun :D

Not really interested inn FF to be honest guys. Just after a decent DSLR Canon. Small is fine.

Have a look at that link, the 500D is in budget and I'd guess a 600D would be too.

You could also look at an older mid range body, 40D?

Good luck choosing.

I used to own a 50D. Lovely camera but, i found it quite heavy.

What was that small DSLR that Canon brought out several years ago?

The 100D is small, but it is not nice to use :)

Too small to use comfortably?
I don't think it is the size, it's the control layout and getting to settings, just feels uncomfortable.
My youngest (11) has one, and it works OK for him. I find the 1300D to the same, bought one for the wife a few years ago, and I don't like it.
The 500, 550, 650, 800, 77 all seem to be similar and comfortable to use, and quick to get to settings. Even the 450 feels OK :)

The spec on the mid range cameras is better than the more entry level ones. One thing I always valued was the ability to shoot at 1/8,000 second as with a wide aperture lens it's easy to exceed the maximum 1/4,000 of some of the more entry level cameras meaning you may need a ND filter when shooting with wide apertures in good light.

This may not matter to some and some are more f8 and be there sort of people but maybe a 50mm f1.8, if you do get one, will be used at f1.8 in good light?

Sorry I've been out of the market too long so I don't know what models are out now.

Years ago the three digit ones like the 300D were the more entry level ones and the two digit models like the 20D were the more mid range ones. I don't know if that's still true.

Someone who knows will be along shortly :D

Canon do not make as many DSLRs these days, see above. I would say the 90D is mid range
