I'm looking to do a little bit of travelling soon and will be using a normal backpack for small things. I want my DLSR in there but also want it protected somewhat. Does anyone know of anything I can use to protect it whilst in a regular backpack?

oh ive also used a t shirt/jumper in the past to wrap up gear

I use cheap neoprene bags from ebay - e.g. http://r.ebay.com/5cfPDq you can get covers for the body with lens attached as well. I once dropped the camera on to a rock and the neoprene cover saved it, although the lens cut right through the neoprene the body and lens were unscathed.

I use a Camera Care Systems padded case [they went bump so there cheap on ebay, pop it in the washing machine and they look like new!] which I use as a bag in its own right and also pop it into my ruck sack when hiking, its very well padded. My other half uses a Crumpler banana hammock which is great and slimmer profile for in a backpack.

Some great suggestions here. Many thanks. That crumpler banana hammock looks ideal. Shame they've stopped making them.
