Hi No 1 son fancies a drum kit. But as you can guess I don't fancy the noise. So it'll have to be one of those electronic ones.
So what should I be looking for/at?
He's had a quick go on a Roland td 11. Any pointers please!

Roland have a very good mesh head, which gives a natural feel, but I expect Yamaha are also replicating that now. The sounds will be very similar in quality.

I'm a big Yamaha fan, you always seem to get a lot for you £'s with them.

Have a look at 2nd hand, as people tend to buy them on a whim & get over it!

Thanks. I'm guessing my purchase may also be a whim. Will see what's about.

I've been using electric kits for about 10 years now. They have come a long way.

You won't go far wrong with a Roland kit, mines based around one with Roland mesh heads and a Td9 module, but I have it connected via midi to a laptop running Addictive drums which gives a much more realistic sound.

Just beware whilst e kits are silent in term of drum noise, you still get a lot of thumb and banging from the actual pads, especially if the kit is upstairs.

Ps. I have a few rubber tom pads, a td3 module and a double bass pedal spare if you want a cheap Heath Robinson setup to get started with. Will need a rack and cables plus cymbals, hi hat and hi hat pedal to make a full kit.
