While taking some macro of the wifes jewels! Dropped my sb-800 and broke the front meter cover - the red bit. Flash still works perfectly or appears to but can I get a replacement bit of red plastic or is it not that simple?

sell the jewels and buy a SB-900 i'll give you £100 for the broken SB-800 :D

you'd need to contact a nikon service centre to see if you can buy the plastic bit

I know what dropping one feels like. :'( Mine won't work at all though, just waiting to see if the insurance give me a yay or nay.

the question is can it be fitted without taking the flash apart ? looking on my intact SB 800 i dont think it can .

WARNING

forgot to say if going down the diy route there are high voltages stored within a flash gun even when switched off from what i remember a point to consider if you take it apart

Thanks very much. Looking at the inside of it, as I can at the minute, there are two catches one either side that lock onto something else! I may send it to the camera clinic to repair, not far away from my house. I am feeling a daftbugga anyway!:D

Thanks for that. BTW I downloaded your script a little while back and tried to follow instructions but it didn't work. It will have been my technical incompetence and I think it only right and proper to send a drink your way;) but can you send me a very stupid idiots guide and i will try off this link?

Have you downloaded the actual manual? It is available in the download section and gives a step by step guide. I have talked a few people through it where it didn't seem to work but it should work on pretty much everything :) What didn't work?

  1. Download the ZIP file
  2. Unzip the folder to your desktop
  3. IF you are running VISTA follow the VISTA BUG FIX section on the first page of the thread....
  4. Run photoshop
  5. Go to the scripts section and find BROWSE click on this and find the file INSTALL.JS in the newly unzipped folder
  6. Answer the questions in the script
  7. When it finishes it tells you.... QUIT PHOTOSHOP!!
  8. Re-run photoshop and re-enter the script menu where you should see lots of new scripts.....
  9. Find "EDITOR - USER DATA"..... Run this and it sets up the scripts for your current user!!
  10. THATS IT JOB DONE.........
  11. You can edit existing scripts and create new ones with "EDITOR - EBS Scripts" but this is optional.

Easy enough to open the flash up....glued mine together a few times from tumbles!

4x machine screws in the bottom, then it just comes apart. clip new cover on, screw back together. Dead easy. A chimp could do it, drinking a cup of tea (PG Tips of course).

If you can ever get through to them, to be honest I still waiting for a call back after 10 days now and left so many messages. The service is utter **** and only want a new strobe for my SB-600 :bang:

I sent them a picture of the damage by email and they replied next day with the part number.
