So I was on the computer, and I had just finished editing photos of my new car. As I stood up, the strap caught on the arm of the chair and long story short, my lens pretty much face-planted the carpet.
Tried to take the lens off and it was jammed on to the camera, after struggling with it for a few seconds it came off, but a ring of plastic from the back of lens fell off, and I also noticed that the focal length markers didn't line up correctly. So I replace the plastic ring, and twist the lens back into alignment. I put the lens back on the camera and it all seemed to work fine (I was amazed). But since looking at the photos I can see now that when the lens is wide open its really blurry (nasty looking too) as I stop down it sharpens up. Its a Tamron 17-50 2.8 (non IS), it seems to be its normal sharpness by f4-5 its just in the lowest few stop positions where it's blurry.
I know I'm asking a lot here, but do any of you guys have any idea how bad this kind of damage is likely to be? The lens was £260 new, and I guess it's not worth spending too much on fixing it, but if it could be done for £50-80 I'd probably get it fixed.
I guess I'm kind of hoping it something not too bad, because the lens still works perfectly in all other areas it's just the soft wide aperture.
Is it worth trying to take the lens apart myself, to see if I can find the damage or is this kind of thing going to be too technical for a non professional, I'm quite handy with electronics and mechanical things?
Such a pain in the lug nuts, I was excited about getting a new (used) motor, and I let my guard slip, I suppose the good thing is I'm too poor to afford an L lens, so it could of been worse, and the camera was fine, so y'know I shouldn't be too negative lol
Cheers!
