Just have to wait for it to come in the post. another 3 years behind the wheel. watch me bounce off the ceiling as they say

Been there, done that, DVLA can be a pain to deal with.

When I reached 70 I was able to renew online, no problem at all. Same again at 73 and 76, but at 79 I couldn't for some reason, and had to fill in a paper form and send it to them via snail mail.

They eventually replied, saying that they needed to check with my GP (which they didn't do) and issued me with a temporary licence for just 3 months.
I managed to speak with a very helpful woman on the phone, and after a long delay they issued my 3-year licence. BUT, according to her, I had passed my car test about 20 years after I actually had, she agreed that I had a HGV1 licence, which I couldn't have had if I had passed my test when their records show I did, and their records showed that I hadn't taken and passed my motorbike test or trailer test, so pretty chaotic.

I just let it ride, I no longer want to ride a bike, the trailer licence has been abolished and I'm now too old to drive a HGV, but that isn't the point.

I was able to apply online in the past, but they changed it so that you couldn't if you had certain medical conditions, of which one was mine, so I had to fill in a paper form. The irony being that my medical condition prevents me from being able to hold a pen!

The medical department at the DVLA is barely fit for purpose. Not that the rest of it are much good either! If everything can be kept online with no human intervention, it seems to go OK. As for the "customer helpline"... That seems to be staffed with the most impenetrable Welsh accented personnel they could find.

No problem for me, I'm Welsh:)

Yep, massive data protection breach for which I was financially compensated with processing my medical licence renewal. Had to get my MP involved to get it sorted out.

I was put on a restricted driving license and could not drive the work's minibus due to episodes of dizziness but my motorcycle license was good to go!!!!!! I dare not go anywhere near a bike at the time! Thankfully my "episodes" have gone.

I have glaucoma in both eyes and now going to see if cataracts needs sorting out. So having passed the DVLA checks and seeing have I can still drive is why I was so happy . Found out by going on the DVLA website. Just waiting for the licence card to arrive

In 2019, I had a mini-Stroke (TIA) and the NHS consultant said I had to give up driving for 3 months. I later saw a private consultant who claimed that all that would have been necessary was to voluntarily stop driving for 1 month as my TIA lasted for only a few minutes but he did not really want to criticise the NHS consultant who was very busy. After the 3 months I re-applied for my licence ad they sent the form to the NHS consultant who telephoned me and was then happy to endorse the form so my licence could be re-issued. The only problem was that it took the DVLA another 3 months to re-issue the licence and then only after I had contacted my M.P. It is a very poor service.

Knowing how bad DVLA are I just wouldn't drive for that period. I don't see why they need it back. If I don't drive, there will be no circumstance when seeing/producing my licence would be an issue.

just back from the referral center about my eyes. Great news the cataracts are very minor and no need for surgery

Sorry to hear that Marc, I developed essential tremors after the first vaccine in February 2021 and they get worse as the day goes on. I cannot write or sign my name.

I had no choice as the NHS consultant reported it to the DVLA who then cancelled my licence so I had to re-apply when the time was up.

that is exactly what my eye surgeon said when I had a stent inserted into one eye. he said he would inform the DVLA so I surrendered my licence I waited for a few months only to find he never did . By that time had lost confidence in being behind the wheel but got my licence back without any hassled
