Yes
Although i have not driven for a good while i know it's for the best and my doctor has agreed with me, but i still feel a loss and sad at the same time with my neurological problems compounded by everything else wrong with me, i am on 23 tablets per day and they affect me as well, good job the wife can drive :) i had to come to a decision for the safety of others as well, before i get too bad anyway no more driving for me for the while.

i am having an electrical tests near christmas just to find out what is wrong with my nervous system and hopefully i could start again but it depends on how i feel and what the specialist say i will not drive with out there say so and if i feel better or my tablets are reduced. it may be i never drive again if so i am ok with that,

All in All a sad but necessary day for me.

Kind Regards Mark

I'm really sorry to hear that Mark, I was aware that you had been unwell but didn't realise the extent of it. It sounds like you've been very pragmatic and I wish you well.

got mine took off me for medical reasons.. also neurological.. got it back and had to renew at short intervals.. then yearly.. then three yearly and now got back fully.. as your condition hopefully improves then so will your licence status.

Your without doubt doing the right thing.. am suprised you wasnt told to do it by the doctor to be honest...

As above... fingers crossed your health and licence situ improve together :)

I remember the day my father had to stop driving. Although his decision was brought about by a dozy lorry driver running into the back of him. I think he was on the verge of stopping anyway.

You seem to be taking it very well. Good luck with the future treatment. 240 volts rock!

Mark, I wish you all the very best for the future and hope you'll be able to resume driving.

Clive

Good luck on the test results Mark and hope for a speedy recovery so you can get back on the road again.

Sorry to hear about your ill health, and kudos on making the decision.
It's quite a big thing, giving up your driving licence, and I know I would personally find it hard.

I remember talking to a good friend who I worked with who was in his 50's. He got so fed up with his wifes family treating him like a taxi service, and he was too polite to say no, that he said 'screw you all' and handed his license back to the DVLA...lol

He did regret it a few years later but what a way to make a point!

got to say that i have a lot of respect for you making that decision.. it would be too easy to just carry on driving.

You have my respect for making the decision to give up, I drive for a living, I see people driving that should have stopped years ago due to age but as the government sees fit to allow people to carry on driving until they think they are incapable they carry on.

Back in the 80s I followed an old woman that must have been in her 90s, it was only for about a mile on a B road which was straight as a die for the whole mile.

Three times she put a wheel up the grass on the other side of the road, a guy coming the other way had to go up the grass bank because she drove towards him, if he hadn't she'd have hit him head on :cuckoo:

sorry to hear that as well, having your driving license surrendered must be horrible.

my great uncle has had to give his up as hes got parkinsons, it must have been horrible for him as hes been into cars since he was a boy and has many classics, i was glad when last time i spoke to him he was talking about getting some of the projects finished, always good to be positive

You lot make me feel so much better, i have tried to persuade my 87 year old neighbour to think about giving up (subtle hints) in the last 5 months he has had 1 accident per month warranting 2 trips to the body-shop and 3 visits from dents away, he has another front passenger side dent it always looks to be that side he hits and it's always the other persons fault ;)

kind Regards mark.

Mark...there are two many people who stop driving at exactly the same moment as they stop living...I know which one I'd like to do first.
