A rather dreary landscape shot which I took yesterday at Glendevon Reservoir:

At the moment I've post processed it by tweaking levels, local contrast enhancing (gimp unsharp mask radius 60 amount 0.3), then adding a contrast mask.

Not sure if it can be processed any better?

You don't have allow edit set in your profile, so I'm not sure if I'm allowed to download for a play...

I have had a quick play in PSE6. I think you could rescue this, easier on a higher resolution image.

Dave, that looks a lot better, could you say what you did?
jgs001, I've turned on the allow editing option now ;-)

Ok, here's my go, I'm not great at this sort of thing but ...

increase contrast with curves, lightened the bottom end of the histogram with curves, three boosts of saturation of about 15 each, and a high pass filter sharpen in GIMP, not as punchy as Dave's though.

Did you shoot in RAW or jpeg, This would probably make a decent HDR, but you'd need a bigger image to play with

Hi Brian. I just adjusted the brightness, contrast, highlights and shadows and boosted the saturation a tad.

sorry but I think its quite a drag and uninteresting picture! - I'd wonder if its worth spending any further time on it other than hitting the Del key!????

I dont mean that nastily; just may be better to focus your efforts elsewhere!?

Sorry, but I'm of the same opinion. Again, I don't mean it nastily, but I'm reminded of that well known saying... something about polish... ;)

I suppose I best back this up... there's no foreground interest. the midground is just wide open water. Yes there are some nice hills in the background, but then after that it's a relatively boring sky too. The trees on the right also look like a solid block of colour. There is no definition. May be the picture's small size, but may be OoF.

Thanks for all the replies and taking the time to show the results of tweaking the image. I agree there isn't much "interest" in the photo. Might head back up there sometime but with a longer focal length lens to try and capture the central hill in more detail

Brian - where did you take the picture from - were you on a boat or down by the waterline!? - in which case including some of the pebbles etc where your stood may help provide a bit more composition to it - and i think the gods need to be a bit more helpful to you in lighting the backdrop of the hills

rabaroo, i was actuall on top of the dam. Perhaps it would have added foreground interest if I had included the hand rail? Well I'm sure I'll revisit sometime in the future.
