Having read so many good things in this forum about DPP I thought I'd give it a whirl. Couldn't find my disk but someone in this forum provided a link to an installable version of DPP v3.6.0.0 on Canon's japanese site I think. I duly installed but it falls over on some of the directories I store my image files in.Message is "DPPviewer.exe has encountered a problem and must close". I am unable to find the link again( I searched the forum for "DPP" and it came up no matches) Has anyone else had the problem. My PC exceeds Canon's system requirements.
I've now found the link, its http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=124713

DPP has been known to crash when it encounters a file in a folder that it is unhappy with - perhaps a JPEG that has been edited in other software and somehow saved in a way that DPP does not like. If that is the problem you have then I'm afraid the only cure I know of is to eliminate the rogue file(s) from the folder.

To track down the rogue(s) create a new, empty folder and point DPP to it. Then, sing Windows Explorer or similar, copy/drag files one by one into the new folder. You will eventually hit upon the first "corrupt" file and DPP will crash. You can then continue searching for other "corrupt" files and, if they are still useable, you'll have to handle them outside DPP.

Of course, your problem might be something else altogether, but give the above a try.

It is very particular which folders it crashes on. I shoot in Raw +jpeg and I thought at first it was folders that had both. It crashed on a folder of images I took earlier today that were downloaded via Adobe photo downloader and no edits. I'll try your idea but perhaps Canon should fix it? DPP is now 3.6.1. Thanks for the time and trouble.

Never ever crashed on me version 3.3.1.1 Maybe I need to upgrade :D

I had this problem with jpgs that had been rotated in photoshop or image viewer (one of the two, can't remember which).

It's a fairly old problem and Canon don't seem too bothered about sorting it..

Just answered my question about the same problem as well :bang:

Anyway, ever the optomist, I've e-mailed Canon to see what they suggest :lol:

Also wondering if it crashes if the Camera is set to auto rotate the images

Got a reply from Canon - please upload new version 3.6.1 - which unfortunately I was using and explained that to them - awaiting a reply (but thankfully not holding my breath )

Doesn't seem the camera rotating the image causes any problems, but if there are jpegs and RAW it can do (but doesn't always !!) as said above.
