Yes
I had a quick play a few years back when I got my first Canon DSLR, but quickly moved to Lightroom.

Is there anything to gain in using DPP (in addition to, or as a replacement for Lightroom)?

Cheers
Gary

It does pretty much the same as Lightroom, so if you've forked out £200 for Lightroom you may aswell use it, unless you find DPP works better for you.

I believe that all RAW converters give slightly different results. As far as I know, "other makes" have to reverse engineer the manufacturer information contained in the RAW file as it is not released. You might be better converting from RAW in DPP as it was designed for Canon CR2 output. It's free if you bought a Canon body anyway and can be upgraded to the latest release provided that you have a copy installed.

Thanks for the responses.
I've been using LR for so long now, I find it difficult to contemplate using another product.
But Zeugma suggested, maybe DPP has a slight advantage in terms of processing the CR2 format.

As a user of DPP myself, if it safe to assume there may not be much advantage in looking at other products, as they may produce similar results ?

It's down to what works for you, if DPP works for you, save your money and keep using it, or if you want to be sure download the trial versions of other software and see how you get on.

Thanks for the responses.

Likewise, try DPP if you think it may be that much of an issue.

FWIW I think Lightroom does a pretty good job of .cr2s, especially with the camera calibration profiles.

Lightroom does a lot more than DPP but the basic image conversion is every bit as good with DPP. Lightroom has the organisation features but if you prefer to use your own filing systems as I do then there is no real advantage to LR. I have both and I rarely use LR these days.
