I have a Canon 450D and also a Canon G7X. I read in a magazine recently that DPP 4 is now out, but when I select either of my two camera models on the Canon site, it only gives me the option for DPP 3.14.48, which is what I am using at the moment.

I am surprised that is all that is available for the G7X, as that came out at the end of last year whereas the 70D came out 18 moths earlier but you can get DPP 4 if you have a 70D. How does that work?

Is it the case that DPP 4 is not compatible with either of my cameras, or do Canon not deem them good enough to warrant DPP 4.

Any insight that anyone may have would be appreciated.

on the canon web site it lists what is compatible with dpp 4 and i think you will find that 450d isn't as is my 550d

It doesn't appear to be, and I am curious as to why. I have emailed Canon and will see what they say.

I think DPP 4.0 introduced for the D1X, 7Dmk11 and 5Dmk111, and then latterly for the 7D.

No idea why Canon restricted the access to these cameras only when it's free??

Will be interesting to see what if anything Canon have to say.

It was originally only available for current full frame range and it's recently been released for the more recent APSC cameras. 450D could be some way in the future but at least they've started to deal with crop frames. You might be luckier with the G7X.

Hi Peter

From Canon's web

CAMERA COMPATIBILITY AND OS SUPPORT
At launch, DPP 4.0 is compatible with Canon’s current range of full-frame DSLRs, including the EOS-1D X, EOS-1D C, EOS 5D Mark III and EOS 6D. For other models, an update of DPP 3.14 will be released.

Please note: DPP 4.0 will be compatible only with 64-bit OS, such as Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, plus Mac OS X 10.8 and 10.9.

You can download DPP 4.0 now, free of charge, from Canon Europe’s support site here. Just click on your camera - EOS-1D X, EOS-1D C, EOS 5D Mark III or EOS 6D - and select DPP 4.0 from the software options to download.

Thanks, Andy. Have had a similar reply from Canon now. It's strange that it's also available for the 70D but not quoted on their website or in email to me. They have said they may make it available for other models as time goes on.

Not too confident about it being made available for the 450D bit can't see why it isn't available for the G7X.

Perhaps as DPP is their RAW processing software, it's something to do with the format of the RAW images the camera saves ???
