We are getting a new Smart TV with a bigger screen (43”)to help the ageing eyesight so the current one (32”)will be surplus to requirements. As my 22” Hanns-G monitor is a bit long in the tooth I was wondering if I could use the 32” HD TV in it’s place (to also help the ageing eyesight). The editing computer does not have HDMI ports but does have a couple of DisplayPort Dual Mode (DP++) ports fitted. I believe one can get a passive DP to HDMI adapter that may do the job.

Does anyone have any thoughts, good or bad, on this proposed setup?

TVs tend to be lower resolution than dedicated monitors and may not be as calibratable either.

Thanks, I was wondering about that.

Perhaps I could use the Hanns-G for the actual editing (primarily video) and the TV for playback.

If TVs are the likely end displays, it actually makes sense to have one in the "supply chain" so you can see what the end users are likely to see. When you mentioned editing in the OP, my first thought was photos rather than video, hence my comments.
