^^^ Confusing thread title eh?? ^^^ :D

EOS Utility seems to have deserted me. Can't get it to recognise the camera all of a sudden & have tried updates, re-installs, etc etc

I used to like Utility as I could preview the images & only select the ones I wanted & also the folder for transfer to along with filenames [the date usually] It was all nice & simple.

If anyone has any suggestions as to why it's playing up I'd appreciate it please :)

Aside from that I had to copy/paste the photos from this weekend to the HD. I didn't know what I was transfering as I couldn't view them & they obviously still had their IMG_5624 names. I'm running XP at the moment so CR2's render as 'preview unavailable' in windows.

The other option is is it simple enough to download from camera [via USB] to the HD through LR in a similar way to how Utility does/did?? I can't seem to view the CR2 images though [no preview available] before import so again I don't know what I'm importing!!!

Any help/suggestions appreciated as it's doing my t*ts in now!! :)

I always shoot RAW/CR2, download to HD as RAW, import from HD as RAW, edit in LR & export as jpeg.

5D2 btw.

Plus I am getting the same Utility issues if I plug in the 450D

Cheers All :)

If you import the images through LR, the Import Module will display thumbnails of the images prior to transfering them. This gives you the option to choose which ones to import.

You can also determine where they go on your hard drive as well as applying some keywords at time of import and even a develop preset. Plus the added advantage of making a second copy to another drive.

Better in my opinion than EOS.

That's cool. Many thanks. I've looked into that & does look as good.

The only issue is that it won't show the previews [CR2] from the camera before import!? :help:

Bloody strange as obviously it shows them once imported into the catalogue. Any ideas there please??

Not quite sure what you mean by this.

When you click on the Import button or the Import Dialog starts automatically, you should see the images that are in your camera. At this point they have not been downloaded.

There will be check marks on the ones you can download. You can download these into the Catalog or deselect those that you don't want and download the rest.

Once you've chosen the images you click on the Import button and they get added to your hard drive and appear in the catalog.

That bit ^^ The images show as 'preview not available' [as RAW files do in Windows/XP] The files show & are selectable etc as normal I just can't 'see' the actual image.

I'll have another play about later on.

Thanks so far

^^^ Any more cles on this? I have what I think is the latest Canon Raw Codec thingy & Windows Live Photo Gallery thingy which is supposed to allow it to view the RAW's but still no luck in LR3 or windows itself....?!!?

Lee....

One of the things that folks suggest when things go astray with Photoshop and LR is to delete the preference files. I'm not in front of my real machine right now so can't recall how to do this but maybe a search about deleting them might help.

Other than that I have no more ideas.:(

BTW: the Canon Codecs are only relevant to Windows intrinsic programs and are not used by LR which has its own.
