Dont you just love jessops

These threads make me laugh, save everyone a lot of typing, search Jessops and read an old thread, they're all the same.

high street retail is a crazy world now, I was with the Dixon Group for 6 years (non sales).. and I could have never put up with what the sales staff had to do.. it used to be you would have 1-2 people that were trained up in each section so you would get the advice needed but it all went to pot with the higher up pretty much threatening you to get targets sorted..

one of our camera sales staff had been with the company dating back to when Dixons was a dedicated camera shop, and he knew his stuff camera wise and always kept up to date... then all of a sudden he was expected to sell TVs and Videos etc.... it is the quantity over quality world we seem to live in nowadays.

true
you can't assume expertise from a retail worker because it's their hobby.
you have to put your faith in the management training and canon reps training the locals.
having said that, you might hope that her more experienced colleague would have some nounce...
oh well. I hope he didn't wreck the door too much!

The reason they don't pass you on is you have a target to hit. I used to work in retail, the boss used to shout and scream if you didn't hit targets or sell the right amount of guarantees, or push the product that was on promotion to get them a bonus. Working in retail is terrible sometimes, esp. with minimum wage.

As for staff knowing something DMan, here are some more places you should avoid:

Comet
Curry's
Homebase
B&Q
Wickes
Smiths
Supermarkets
Phone shops
Car Places

Pretty much everywhere, if you are a enthusiast in any area you may think, the staff are unlikelyto be not as knowledgeable as you.

I know it is frustrating, but it is the way things are. Pay peanuts, get monkeys. It is the way it is. These people deal with crap all day for very little money, they are trying their best to help you, and I know it is frustrating, but being arrogant to them helps no one.

Just to say,

I have yet to find a member of staff in any of my local Jessops who are not up to the mark. City Centre EDI branch, all the staff I have had dealings with seem switched on, polite, professional and friendly. It's a real asset to have such a store in the city, and I would not hesitate to send anyone there way. I know some of them are part time photographers earning from their skill outwith the full time Jessops gig.

One other thing, the discounts I have always managed are great. On my biggest order, I saved £300 or so more than I could have online, and was also given ALL my UV filters free of charge (7 of them, 7 lenses).

You normally only hear the bad stories, so I think its only fair to remind people, there are probably far more good than bad stories out there! They just need to be told more :D

Gary.

I'd agree wholeheartedly with the EDI centre shop (that's the one just off the end of Princes Street towards Haymarket - with the pro centre?!)

I went in there after a morning flight from bristol for the RWC2007 game against New Zealand at Murrayfield and had my 300 fixed by a very helpful chap who was a true expert! I know they dont usually do repairs but it was a desperate measure and they recognised this and bent over backwards to help!
