Don't knock it until you have tried it, or so the saying goes.
Fair enough I thought.
having seen lots of posts and adverts advocating a veggie diet.

What the hell I thought, so I loaded up the slow cooker earlier today, with a myriad of vegetables just to see.
It does smell rather nice I must admit,

I just hope that it doesn't impact on the taste of the beef too much.

:D

I have often thought that I could really eat veggie food with slow cooking and using spices. Sometimes, slow cooked food is at its tastiest after a couple of days.

Yuck, dead animal stew , Revolting :puke:

I always cook double, the rest to be eaten at a later date (y)
Although I do freeze it and "re-cook" it.

But there are dead vegetables in there too, I did scrape off their skin, and cut their heads & feet off while they were still alive though.
At least the cow was dead, before I cut it up (y)

Quite often eat veggie - much easier than cooking up 2 different meals! Weirdly, I'm better at cooking veggie meals than I am at doing meaty ones and Mrs Nod (veggie) is a mean meat cook. Occasionally even eat vegan but couldn't do without cheese for very long (and chizz etc. are NOT acceptable substitutes!)

I could never go full vegetarian but I'd say more than 50% of my meals are veggie.

I've just made an awesome veggie curry. If I do say so myself.

I did the killing and gutting for this evening's veggie curries - should have heard the onions and cauliflower scream as the knife went in!!!

I keep a couple of ready meals in the freezer, justin case.
I picked up a veggie lasagne once by mistake.
I must admit, it was rather tasty, and certainly on a par with the meat version, and dare I say, maybe even better.

I inadvertently tried a veggie "pork" pie last week. Unlike your lasagne this was not on par with the meat version. Although, of course, other versions of the same thing might be. This particular one was a Tesco one.

I'm not a massive fan of curries TBH but my local Indian guy serves a side veggie curry with his Lamb biriani.
They do go well together.

I can't say I have tried other meat substitute products, perhaps this one was just a fluke.

Tried to go veggie a few times, after a couple of days I’m starving, tried adding a side of a bag of jam doughnuts, doesn’t work for me.

"side of donuts" love it :D

Was your lasagne a fake meat one or a vegetable one? We've tried a couple of fake meat ready meals and not really enjoyed them. I quite like soya beans (aka Edamame) but neither of us are keen on processed soya products.

Side of donuts appeals to me too!!!
A month or so back, we went to a local resort (Dawlish Warren) for lunch, only to find the pub we usually go to (The Boathouse - looks tacky and horrible [inside and out!!!] but the staff and food make up for it!) was closed, with the only food available being from the kiosk attached to the pub. The girl serving was most apologetic that there was nothing veggie available and that even the chips were cooked in the same vat as the fish etc so weren't veggie BUT the donuts had their own dedicated machine and they WERE veggie! So, I had a burger and chips as a main with a couple of donuts for afters and Mrs Nod had 2 donuts for her main and another for pudding!!!

TBH I'm not sure, there were a lot of vegetables in there and something that may have passed as meat, but I've no idea what it was.

Sounds like it was probably a vegetable one rather than a fake meat one - the fake meat ones tend to be more saucy than vegetably (if that makes any sense!)

As for Satan (ok, seitan!) bacon; NO, just NO!!!

If I ever buy a fake, plant based meat product anything you have my permission to shoot me.

I regard any "vegetarian" who buys that s*** with deep suspicion.

Some veggies are so because of medical reasons (can't remember what the meat "allergy" condition is called but know it exists) so I can sort of see that they would like it but it's certainly not for Mrs Nod or myself - she doesn't want meat and if I do, I eat it!

Forest Green Rovers only serve veggie food, was gifted a hospitality package once, can safely say the vegan sausage and mash was absolutely disgusting.

This happened to me last week as well. The Veggie version tasted awful but what annoyed me was the fact that it had "PORK PIE" in bold letters and had to be studied carefully to see Vegan mentioned. I guess I should have reported the supermarket for misleading. I was in a hurry at the time.

I don't know if you've been watching the series Yellowstone or not, but the main character John Dutton came up with a brilliant line to a vegan character that was giving him a hard time about farming beef.

'Ever plough a field...to plant the quinoa or sorghum or whatever the hell it is you eat? You kill everything on the ground and under it, you kill every snake every frog, mouse, mole, worm, you kill them all. So I guess the only real question is how cute does an animal have to be before you care if it dies to feed ya?'

I couldn't stop grinning about it for hours. :ROFLMAO:

The counter argument would be that it takes a lot more land to grow animal feed and then rear livestock than simply growing for human consumption.

Yip ......... cannot beat half a dozen bags of crisps with a steak ...

We are veggies only difference is that I still eat fish
To be honest though we were never big meat eaters anyway so it wasn’t a big deal to give it up
My missus keeps buying the veggie pretend bacon, I refuse to eat it it’s truly disgusting
My favourite is a nice vegetable curry and it’s easy to make too

I’m all for vegans, means more of the good stuff for me, but why refer to your food as plant based ‘bacon, chicken etc’ just call it what it is, nearly picked up the wrong stuff hurrying through the supermarket and saw chicken burger till I saw the meat free bit in the title.

Hmm, I bought a veggie ham and cheese baguette from greggs by accident the other day.
I think that's a proper test, to eat it and be non the wiser.

That was a fail, seagulls didn't seem to mind though.

Strange that, inland gulls feed from landfill sites, and we all know what ends up there...
