Has anyone sat down and worked out how much it costs to print 1 pic using a deskjet printer.

I know all printers will be different but I wondered if anyone had a ballpark figure.

I use a HP DJ930C with the 2 cartridges - and just looking in staples I can get a 38ml colour for £30 and a 42ml black and white for £18. Ive no idea how many pics that prints, just wondered if anyone had done the sums

Thanks

Allan

don't go there......it's scary
I once sat down and worked out the running costs of my epson which uses 7 carts. Ink is in the region of 700 to 900 gbp per litre!!!!!!

And as epson printers like to spit it all over a sponge during a cleaning process, I became rather angry :D

I was going everything at A4 at the time, so carts didn't last very long!

KIM might be able to get about four Black carts if you want them, they are old ones from work, out of date as of Dec 2006, but I think they should be OK, will check if I can get them next week as I'm off work at the mo, is it the No 45's that you use???

I put an out of date cart into an epson C84 last year and it fubar'd it. Dunno if the HP carts would do the same but I wouldn't risk it with one of my printers again (it was the inlaws last time and I ended up giving them my printer to replace it!).

Think it jammed up in the print head, took it to bits and tried to get it going again but it just wouldn't have it at all.

HP's have the print head built in to the cart.....

I think worst case it just wont let the ink through, but they are genuines we've got about four/five of each colour.

Wouldn't surprise me if it was about £1 a print if not more

My mate only uses out of date cartridges for his HP printer as they are way cheaper. He did say he has only had a problem with one or two not working but its not a worry to chuck them away when they cost nowt.

Faced with £50+ for a pair of HP carts a while back I bought a Epson R200 for £60 instead. I use only compatible carts and they work fine and last for ages. Last time I bought 6 sets of 6 carts (36 carts) for £25 from SVP.

I've had it about 2 years and it is used once or twice a week on average and has had no nozzle blocking problems. I have saved so much on ink costs that I would not hesitate to buy another similar Epson if it did fail.

I have Epson 2100 and even though I buy my cartridges from 7day its still too expensive to print lots with. Someone told me that inkjet fluid is the most expensive fluid in the world and I tend to agree. I only print A3 + anything else gets shipped out....Ian

BTW light magenta and light cyan get used at an alarming rate.

I'll let you know next week, I did have an article either photo mag or Macuser about how much ink exaclty costs and what you do get £1 for print, i'll dig that out too.

I will try and work out some sums next time I do a print run of DVD covers KIM. I tried once before and because of what I was printing I was using a ton more light cyan than anything else...so it didnt help with any equations.

I would be shocked if an A4 print cost me more than 40p including paper on an Epson R220.

I couple of years back I worked it out that a 'typical' A4 photo quality print on good photo heavy weight paper cost in the region of £1 on my R200
