He was and is a damned good photographer. And although he claims that his war photography made no difference, the crucial fact remains that he bore witness, which has worth even today.

It would be hard for one person to make a difference , photographer or no. The human species seems to be programmed to inflict damage on itself (and the planet).

He seems to be very hard on himself.
