I want to register a domain name. I've looked at different registrars websites and the prices vary (I am using the same suffix) I understand that you only get what you pay for, and that different companies charge different rates for various reasons. But what should I be looking for in a domain name registrar.
Thanks for your help.

Would recommend heartinternet or uk2.

what you need is full dns control to change nameservers for hosting, heart offers email fowarding info@ yourname .com to ur gmail etc until you get hosting setup, and make sure ur domain appears in your nominet account (.uk only)
avoid companies such as vistaprint & yell.com as they retain ownership of the domain.

you shouldn't be paying anymore than £10 per 2 years. this is what i charge but i offer extra services such as holding page

As above, DNS control and holding page (if you don't have a webserver to point to yet). A lot of people including me use 123-reg....

used to use 123 but moved after they lost several of my domains and billed me for names that had expired, not many domainers use them these days, tho it is there parent company that own heart who haven't had the same issue.

I have used 1&1 for business and private domain management, website hosting and email servers.

Reasonably priced, scaleable and excellent user control. Never failed in 8 years.

Edit

They manage 12 domains for me - very well done

I also have 2 managed by an Australian company. Ridiculously expensive and terrible service. Have been trying to move them to 1&1 - they are resisting with charging excessive paperwork.....

I use LCN and 123. Look to see if the host includes the domain cost in with the hosting as that is sometimes an incentive. I prefer uk-based hosts and ones with good phone support.

Hi,

I've been using bigwetfish for a few years and the service is second to none. There big enough to be economical and well featured but small enough to be personal. The support and service is really impressive. I should add that I have no connection to them except from being a happy customer.

Cheers,

Kenny

I've used 123reg for years, never had a problem....to be honest though never really needed to use their other services apart from web forwarding a couple of parked domains

I used vidahost for mine, did some research and they were getting the better reviews, 2 years registration of a domain cost just over 6 quid, went with them for hosting in the end too
