A few days ago I did a wedding for a very dear old friends daughter. What an amazing day!
First I knew all the family, this makes the group shots miles easier, no calling for brides parents it's over here X and Y. I knew most of the guests, we all had a great laugh and a fun day.
The weather was a bit rubbish but the rain stopped just long enough to get everybody outside for the photos, at just the right time, and it was just starting as we were walking back from the copule shots (I was a happy bunny).
The food was fantastic, and I like my food. Better still as I had a driver I could have a drink, just the one as I was working.
After getting home and backing up I sent the brides father (my dear mate) a quick montage just off the jpegs (I shoot jpeg and raw ) and the couple loved them.
In the few days since I've had three requests from family and friends of the couple to do their weddings as well.
I thought I'd post this to make a change from the I did a wedding for a friend and now we're not speaking type thing. It can work.

Well done indeed, it can be a traumatic day, I know from experience!
Many many years ago my pal, who was a police officer rang me on a Friday evening and asked me to cover his wedding the next day! I’m an amateur photographer and at the time I had an Olympus OM 2n, no flash and a Tokina 35-135 (or something very similar) lens.
It peed with rain all day so indoor shots that came out yellow as you can appreciate I’m sure.
We are still mates thankfully but the photos were cr4p!
I was second camera at another friend’s wedding a few years back, a perfect day and the images were fabulous. I was asked by a couple of people attending if I could cover their upcoming wedding, but I politely refused.

Many years ago (film days) I had been photographing weddings for a few years but was starting to not enjoy the experience. The next "season" I had a good few weddings booked and at virtually every one the weather was rubbish BUT for each one there was a break in the rain long enough to get all essential photographs outside. I started to think that this couldn't happen again and to carry on would be pushing my luck - somebody was certainly looking out for me that season! I also believe that when your heart ceases to be in it you don't give your best, which isn't fair on the bride and groom. That was my last year of wedding photography and for the next few years concentrated on studio portraits where the weather conditions were totally predictable!

I shot my eldest granddaughter's wedding this time last year - I had less than a week's notice as she'd 'just assumed' I would do it because I 'used to do it' and I shot her mother's twenty odd years ago.

Luckily, the venue they chose was fully wheelchair accessible and it went without a hitch. It was my first wedding shot from my wheelchair, so it had it's moments. I'm amazed I never ran anyone's toes over though - I wanted to occasionally . . . ;)

Glad it worked out for you lol. Very glad.

Once I was asked to shoot family wedding. Mother of the bride asked me if I could copy a photographer style from California. I said I could. And I practiced for months until the event. Then on the wedding day I find out the mother of the bride paid this photographer from California to fly first class and photograph the wedding. I found out after I drived 2 hours to the event, on the day with camera and flash in hand. Family....

A nice positive and feel good story! :D Well done :D

I've had fun and games over the years. Had ambulances a few times, had a grooms father die as they come out the church (the tv were there for that one, it was something to do with Coronation street) Had most of the west midlands armed police at another wedding. Had wedding cars break down loads of times. One dumped the sump right outside the hotel door, they were well pleased.
Had no B+G for the wedding in front of mine at the reg office one day, just the guests (they had a barny I'm told) I had a groom caught with a bridesmaid before the service, wedding still happened, but I doubt it lasted.. Best man and groom fighting outside the reception on another occasion.
On another wedding, a milk float ran into the back of the guests cars and shunted about half a dozen of them, I got lucky, I'd parked around the corner. And another church, most of the guests car got broken into, again I got lucky.
Oh and the police turned up and accused me of being a spy at another wedding (we were by an army camp doing the couple shots) as it happened I knew the C.O of that camp and all it took was a phone call....
Oh the joys of wedding photography. ;)
