Ok folks, be honest now, does your better half know how much you have spent on your kit ?,do you tell the truth if they ask?, or are you less than generous with the figures?. would there be war declared if they knew:D?

Mine does not know how much I have spent, I never tell her and she does not ask but I will admit to hiding any paper evidence, although I have had a few nervous moments when she has been privy to my on line statement:D she has an idea that I have spent a good chunk of my personal savings but I think she would more than raise an eyebrow if she knew the exact amount.

Deja Vu...... oh well it would have been a while ago if I have asked this before when there was only a few thousand members.

My other half knows how muhc my kit has cost, but recently she scowled at the cost of some software I want (need, honest!!).... Solution? I bought her a camera and got her hooked, and now the software isn't so expensive anymore. :D

Ohh he knows. That is why I haven't been "allowed" to buy new kit in 2 years.

My other half knows, but he's a photographer too, so he probably spends just about as much as I do.

Yes she knows, much to her dismay...just think how many shoes I could have gotten her :( :p

she knows, pretends not to mind!!!:bat:

Mine knows.
Apart from the recent purchase which has come in unannounced and about £300 over what I wanted to spend.

Not got a clue bless her. I have lodged the true value with others so that if I peg it unexpectedly at least she can get a reasonable return on my investment.

It's the other way around in our house. I have no idea how much I've spent over the years on photography but my other half could tell you exactly how much - in fact, she's bought a lot of it.

Mine is into paper craft. cards boxes, etc and she has probably spent a good bit on tools/machines and material herself, she has a whole room filled to the ceiling with her stuff so maybe that is why she has never enquired.

I even surprised myself when I sat down and totted everything up for the very first time, it is amazing how it can mount up:eek:

I suppose if our better half's ever wanted to know they only have to Google the model numbers to find out.

Mine semi does :D
She know's pretty much all of what I paid for my stuff, although I bought an Arctic Butterfly recently, and if she found it it was £70 she would go NUTS. Big time :bat:

She never looks at the bank statements, so I'm seriously considering being a bit more, er, spend happy, shall we say :woot:

I'm lucky mine just ask me how many cameras and lenses I have - she doesn't have clue how much they are so a 18-70 is very much like a 24-70 in my other half's eyes, just like a D700 with grip is just like a D200 with grip :D

I do wonder what she'll say when she sees my nice new Lencarta Setup

Phew, I was just about to post that I was the only one so far that had a secret:D

Nooooo! He hasnt a clue... thank goodness.

My biggest mistake was my Canon 70-200mm F2.8 in a very noticeable shade of beige that seems to leap out of the all black interior of the camera bag.

I told him I had sold my canon 75-300 for (£100) and bought the 70-200 2.8 for £200!!!! :D

He tutted and walked out the room!! :D

Mine knows roughly, indeed we put £5k on the house insurance to cover the replacement of stuff.

It did kick off recently when I upgraded to my 50D. I had mentioned it and she hadn't voiced strong objections so of course I took that as a yes....:D

Ahhh, black lenses are such a cool colour...but why is it they are such obviously different sizes:thinking:??

My better "half" now only gets to know half of it ;)
I stopped telling her after mentioning a few years ago that I fancied a D200, she started browsing my magazines and I was caught, now I get the parcels delivered to my work :D

I cant understand why you would keep such things secret?

Darren knows exactly what I spend on kit, and in turn, I know exactly how much he spent on a couple of new speakers :D

Mine knows what my kit is worth, she isn't bothered, but then it's my money so I do what I like with it, just the same as she can do with hers.

Hi all

me and my fiancees opinion is that as long as you can afford things then whats the harm in spending the money... its yours and you have earned it... you spend what you like as you see fit... we all dont understand why others spend what they do on intrests if its not our interest... we will both spend allot of money on clothes too as well photography equipment... they are our hobbies... I personally dont understand why anyone would pay thousands doing up a 1.2l corsa but people do... and good luck to them... as long as the money is been earned rightfully and your not leaving people short with your fair share of the bills... there is not an issue... its your money and you cant take it with you....

We could go all moral and talk about well maybe you should give some to charity etc... but that is stepping into stupidity as well... its not peoples personal issues to sort problems that gouvernments should be tackling... but get away with because some are so genorous to charity!

Gary

Now that IS a good idea :D

My relationship is honest and open. I tell her if she asks, if she doesnt then its no big deal

I think this sums mine up best too.
I guess it helps that my wife rarely asks! :)

Mine doesn't really ask, but she knows I've got a decent amount of kit.

It all helps when I can sweeten her up with the 85mm 1.8 and 430 EX II for under £200 for both (then show her WHE to compare against)

Absolutely! She shares my interest and even bought me my 1D Mk3! Is mine a perfect marriage? Definitely.

Well, She has a rough idea (very rough!!) but is bound to find out shortly when the insurance quote for all the equipment comes through the door!!

All I usually get from her when I get another parcel at the door is 'NOT another lens??!!'

My better half has a rough idea how much I spend on gear.

She looks through my mags and if she spots anything new she will go out and spend the same on clothes, shoes, handbags etc, etc, etc.

For some strange reason my spending has halted......

No, it would only be perfect if she bought ME one too...tell her, tell her!

Yip... my gf knows too... I`m not one for keeping secrets really... she`s bought various bits `n` bobs for me anyway so it`s cool.

As has been said though, I can do what I want with my money and she can do the same with hers... win win situation. :)

Yes, Had mine stolen, replaced by contents insurance.
Looking to upgrade soon, so may have to fess up.
Friend of mine always bought red motorbikes, his wife never noticed they were different....just red.

Mine does as we have a joint account and she hasn't seem to mind so far. Granted, I haven't spent thousands of £s like some have, but I have still racked up some kit bills in the first 3 months. I think she appreciates the fact that I am saving some money by buying second hand so that I get more bang for the buck, and the fact that I have found a hobby that I really enjoy.

Absolutely - my missus bought my kit for me for Christmas!

We share all our finances (there's no reason not to in a serious long-term relationship), so there's no point (or possibility) of one of us surreptitiously buying things unless its for a birthday or Christmas, when we have an ammnesty on checking the bank balance for three weeks and an agreed limit.
