Hi all,

I wonder in UK is there anything like that?
Say I want to buy D90 + kit for 750 pounds.
And want to pay monthly for 12 or 24 months.
Is there any kind of service like this in Jacobs, Jessops or Currys?

Cause if there is, what would be the terms n conditions?

As I want to upgrade if there is some sort of service like this

Thanks

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Most retailers will hand credit off to an external company (or multiple companies) - so their terms and conditions will vary. Your best bet is to look online at who has a deal you're interested in and then ask them about any finance options.

I would think that you may not find too many 0% offers at the moment with the credit levels the way they are, but you may be lucky.

You may still find a credit card that has an opening offer of 9 or 12 months interest free on purchaces or balance transfer.

Just looked and the Halifax do a credit card with 9 months interest free on purchaces.

Good call...

But do you have to have a current job for more than 3 months to use these offers?

Dont know if you have any Harvey Norman stores over there yet? (Unusual for NI to get something first lol)

If so they are doing 13months interest free on anything over £999.99

I would think that you may need to have had a permanent job for at least 3 months for any credit company to give you any kind of credit.

Don't forget that 0% credit means the retailer (as a general rule) will be paying a percentage of what you borrow - credit companies are businesses and are there to make a profit - meaning what you buy is probably at the higher end of the pricing market in the first place. The exception to this is if the retailer has it's own credit union/association whereby it can swallow the cost of the loan by offsetting it against shifting more units.

If you're after purchasing Nikon gear, Grays Of Westminster in London offer an interest-free option, however it's only for a 6 month period and the balance has to be £1,000 or over, so perhaps you may be better off looking around.

Jessops do this where you have to pay within 6 months for under £800 or with 12 months over £800. All you have to do is pay an extra £29 at the end as a settlement fee. It is very hard to get accepted though. And they are very harsh if you are even one day over, I bought a Nikon D60 on it for £379. If I miss just one day of that six months I pay all of the interest over that 6 month period which will add an extra £209 on top of paying the rest of the camera off.

Just my opinion but I would suggest you start saving rather than commit to paying off a loan. There are more important things in life than kit and should you find you suddenly NEED that £30/month to live, you could end up up a certain well known creek without a paddle.

Warehouse Express, but watch out...I bought a Nikon F5 on interest-free finance from them way-wa-aaaaay back and even though it was paid off within the specified time, I still get nasty letters from the credit-broker that they used, asking for the balance of the interest... that from 15 years ago...
I think that's less their fault and more the credit-broker though...

I got my D3 from Jessops. Their terms were pretty much the same as Warehouse Express but I went with Jessops cos their branch in York is 60 seconds walk from my office (For how long I don't know???!?!?!?!)

Tesco are doing a credit card with zero interest for 12 months (I know cos I got one last week to settle the Jessops D3 credit with :) )

Guess I will start saving money until I have enough money to get a D700
or something newer in Full Frame.:D:D
And save more for some good lens.!

Cash price: £1369.00 No deposit required
You pay: £1369.00 If you settle the balance within the first 12 months, just pay the £29 settlement fee
Total cost: £1398.00

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Or pay: £70.40 per month if you do not settle in full before the end of the Buy Now Pay Later period, you will start to pay (by direct debit) 36 monthly payments.

Total cost £2,534.00

Total amount payable £2534.00 HOW Much

Typical APR 29.8%

There IS a very cheap route into Full Frame but may be considered a bit radical... might I suggest a 2nd hand film body? An F80, F65 or similar will get you started for well under £100 and film from 7 dayshop, Mailshots or similar shouldn't break the bank. D&P including a CD of the images isn't too expensive and the discipline of shooting selectively rather than machine gunning with digital is worth achieving.

(BTW, it's worth saving for a D700 - it's a fabulous camera!)
