does the eos 70-300 work on the dslrs? alot of the ones sold on ebay seem to say that when used on a dslr you can only use it on f4 or you get err 99

Sigma 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 DL Macro Super AF for Canon-EOS thats all it say on the advert, with a picture

Sigma

Thought you ment it was a Canon lens.

Then yes Sigma lenses do have a history of incompatibilites with Canon EOS cameras. I know mine didn't work on my 10D and the same for the 28-135

Its because thay don't pay the licence fee to canon, so every time canon bring out a new camera the chances are that you sigma won't work with it.

Hi Iliria. I have one of these lenses on my Canaon 350d and it works fine! Good lens considering the price. No reason why it shouldnt work on the 400d!

Taken with the Siggy.

I have a photographic memory that was never developed

What you will find is that if the lens was made before the Camera came out then there is a good chance it won't work in some way.

If the lens was made after the camera came out then there is a good chance it will work.

Sigma have this problem Model by Model though as Canon keep tweaking their software.

Google it, its a very well documented issue

it may be well worth trying to get hold of sigma as some of their lenses can be re-chipped to work with the current dslr line up. if you have the exact name of the lens and the serial number they should be able to tell you whether they have the chips left. I phoned them up about getting a 500mm updated and that they were down to their last couple. Think it costs about £40 or so, saying that many lenses can't be updated any more.
