Does The Canon 24-70 F4L Still Cut It?

Looking at some lens upgrades. I've mentioned them previously but never acted on it.

I have 2 lenses in the running, both used as my transition to Canon ML has begun but I still have a 5Div with plenty of life left in it. I can adapt EF glass to my R7 but not RF glass to mt 5D.

16-35 F4L, my mind is made up on this, a definate update to my 17-40L.

24-70 F4L. I was all for this one but I see it's been discontinued. I know that doesn't make it a good or bad lens but potential service issues concern me. The 24-70 is an update to my 24-105 (Mk1).

I'm going for F4, as I don't see many situations where 2.8 would be uselful for landscapes. Maybe the odd occasion for different effects but in the main, no. There's the price diffrence between f2.8 and F4 too of course. I'm happy with F4.

I have both lenses sitting in a basket with MPB, I've almost clicked buy a few times but held off, so far.

Just interested in thoughts.

Why not keep the 24-105 for the 5d4 and go for the 24-70 RF for the new one? I'm a long time out of Canon, but friends still shoot it and the RF lenses are superb.

16-35 F4L, my mind is made up on this, a definate update to my 17-40L.

If you should decide to buy new, John Lewis have a good deal at present. However I had not realised how expensive that lens has become so if you can get a good/excellent one from MPB at a much lower price, go for it. I changed to this lens from the 17-40 a few years ago, very pleased.

I cannot comment on the 24-70 f4 L.

Cheers Bud, I love your logic. My 24-105 has an AF problem though, between 32 and 50mm. I want to make more use of the 5D too, I can't see me wearing it out tbh.

Sigma's offerings were in the running but in the main, they're not weather sealed, which is a must, especially in Scotland.

I've got the 24-70 f/4 L and love it. I far prefer it to the 24-105 which I also have.

I also have the 17-40 and use that a lot too. I find the two lenses work quite well side by side; similar, but different. I enjoy them both.

I've never tried the 16-35, but have never felt the need to explore that.

I'm going to hold out now until next week and get New Year done and dusted, then I'll probably order on Monday morning. It's just a question of from where now. I have both lenses in 'my basket' with MPB. I use LCE a lot though, I bought my R7 from them.......but their used prices vary wildly on the same gear even when it's graded the same.
