I use Capture NX2 for nearly all my editing but it has no clone tool and the healing brush is not good on large areas so I use Paint.Net for cloning.

If you use both Capture NX2 & PS Elements which do you use for which editing steps and what are the advantages in using PSE instead of NX2?

Thanks
Kev

Haven's used capture NX2 but I do use ViewNX to sort my image ans ps elements to edit. I shoot alot in RAW and I really like adobe camera raw.

Nikons own software should do a better job of converting it's images from raw, it is made just for that job, but I don't think it has as many features for the general editing, cloning/layers etc etc. Elements on the other hand has to guess at the best raw conversion (as it has to cover many formats, and may not see all nikons information) but is a well featured image editor. The combination should work well.
The best bet is to try the trial version of elements and see which produces the best results for you.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I will continue to use Capture NX2 for converting and editing my raw files as I find it extremely good but, as I said, it is limited in cloning and healing.

I have downloaded the Elements 9 trial and I am playing with it but I don't see many advantages other than the very good cloning & content aware healing tools, I find these easy to use and effective. I am not into pasting bits of one picture into another, adding text, textures etc. if I want to do these then Paint.Net does a good enough job.

Although Capture NX2 does not have layers as such, the way it edits is similar, you don't worry about creating a layer you simply select the area you want & make the edit. It is all done non-destructively and is fully editable afterwards.

I just wondered if there were any more features where Elements scored over Capture NX2 ? - as a poor pensioner I need to justify all my spending to SWMBO :)
