Yes
We found this after returning from a trip out. It was immediately obvious close to the back of the car as we when around to unload stuff.

I can't imagine it was there when we set off as its fairly big(about 25cm in diameter) and a couple of days ago I was strimming very close by.

Clearly well rusted but haven't got the foggiest what is it from or how it appeared on the drive.

Brake disc shield? (Keeps road crap off brake discs.)

That's what I was thinking....

Thanks for the replies.

I know nothing about cars but am I right in assuming I need to get a new one?

The car, which 15 year old but has very low mileage, had its MOT last week and some work done on the hand brake - on steep inclines the hand brake would not hold the car.

It passed its MOT and the hand brake is working well now.

Yes, I would get a new one.
What car is it?
Depending on the wheels that are on it you may be able to see which one is missing....
The cover fits behind the brake disc....shown on this image from the link below...

Thanks Bob. The car is an 06 Vauxhall Zafira.

I surprised that it wasn't replaced(or the garage did not suggest a replacement) when they did the work on the hand brake, or that it got through the MOT, though I don't know if a disc break shield is part of the MOT.

Cheers

I think it is part of the mot, if not you may get an advisory, but they would only look to see if it was there.
If it's the side they were working on that's fell off I'd ask them about fitting a replacement.
They're only about £12 but the hub needs to come off to fit it....

Granted you think it fell off of your car.......

But could it have been thrown off a passing car and either landed on your drive or was spotted by a passerby in road and they chucked on the drive.

In other words without 'proof' it is from your car just what are the potential other sources???

The bit in the photo looks like it may have fallen off something a fair while ago. I'd ask the garage to stick your car up on a lift to see if all your shields are in place, just for peace of mind. While it may not have been an MoT fail, I'd certainly have expected the servicing garage to have picked up that much corrosion - a few years ago!

Fair point BB but I should have said the drive slopes very steeply up from the road and where we found it is about 20 feet higher than the road and quite a way set back.

The garage isn't open today but I'm going there on Monday.

I have just had a look around/under the car and none of the four disc appear to have a shield as shown in the photo in Bob's post above.

Many thanks everyone for your time in replying.

When you have been to the garage on Monday and been reassured it's not from your car just go and place it near someone you don't like's car ...

May not be off your car, but it's definitely a brake disc cover, and it looks like it was a vauxhall one.....it has the exact same pattern on it.....

Interesting that that one seems to be more generic.....via a search, one specific to an 06 Zafira looks rather different in regard to shape and 'coverage' of the fan shape.

It will be interesting to see what the MoT garage have to say....for example rusted disk covers, would they not be a notification problem? Plus if present on some brakes but not others, equally a notification?

PS plus front & rear differences?

That one fits a 2006 1.6 zafira and others. The fronts are a totally different shape....
