Hi folks,

Getting more studio work done in college and instead of using the usual pulley system I used a Calumet studio support kit yesterday and it was excellent. I was going to purchase one and noticed it's £150 which normally would be fine but since I've just spent too much on a lens I'd rather reign it in a touch. Does anyone use any supports that are cheaper? Looking for something portable that will hold decent weight. Most of the cheapies on eBay only hold 5kg which is a bit lightweight.

As a side note shot with blue paper yesterday for the first time and loved it. Such a different feel to the image. Funky and light hearted.

Regards

Scott

Hi Scott,

I have the photosel ones and it feels well made.

Another option would be the air damped Lencarta light stands and one of these

https://www.lencarta.com/telescopic-background-support-pole-extendable-cross-bar

Their light stands are very strong, but not sure how much they could hold.

They also do a nice bag which will hold the lights stands and bar.

Might be worth contacting them about weight, they also have a discount at the mo till the 17th.

I was asking the same question a while back, I actually came across this one http://wvww.smick.co.uk/sonline/lig...-background-support-with-telescopic-pole.html delighted with it.

Thanks Brian I'll check it out. Do you have any idea how much weight it can hold? It doesn't say in the description.

Weight is hard to quantify, it depends largely on the extension height, but I would guess that a pair of our stands would easily hold 10kg at maximum height with the crossbar fitted - assuming of course that the legs are set correctly, i.e. not as shown in the Smik one:)
