Document editing on an iPad and saving to cloud

Hello!

I'm after an app for the iPad that'll let me store docs online and allow me to edit them on my iPad and send them back to the online storage for sync with my laptop.

I'll give you my scenario:

College assignment is sat on my laptop, I go to college and make an amendment on this document and save it to the online storage (I'm using box at the minute, don't mind changing). Go home, continue where I left off on my laptop.

Surely someone must do this? I'm having big troubles trying to find a decent cost effective way around this, office 365 subscription can do one!

I did look into this, id rather pay a one off liscence than have a monthly subscription

I thought it was too, it lets you download and view for free but for editing it requires a office 365 subscription

Primarily word, excel would be a bonus.

Google drive and their editing apps. It's better than apple's own stuff. (Or just trade up to android tablet as I am planning to do )

Only thing is the docs wont sync back to the laptop.

I use both Office 365 and iCloud, works great across both Mac and PC, and iPad/iPhone
