I read today that the number of calls made from mobiles fell for the first time ever in 2017. (Story here).

The report finds that the total volume of calls made on mobiles fell by 1.7% in 2017, even though making them is the cheapest it has ever been.
That does not necessarily mean people are talking less, however, because Ofcom has not collated figures for chat apps such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, which could account for some of the decline.

I do make most of my calls via FaceTime or WhatsApp, so as mentioned above, that probably accounts for some of the decline noted by Ofcom. Even so, I average 61 minutes a month of voice calls, a number that I found surprisingly high!

When out & on the road I use my phone (hand free of course) a lot - 500+ minutes every month, sometimes 1000 minutes.

When at home I never make a voice call, instead I use WhatsApp or Facetime to make video calls so I can see my niece and nephews

Having checked my bill I average 10 mins a month on voice calls.

To me the trend of having unlimited calls and texts is fading in favour of data. More so because of VOIP.

Have made many a phonecall over whatsapp the clarity is amazing compared to that of a regular cellular call.
Hell everytime the wife calls its like she is breathing over my shoulder :D

Yes, because it's the only phone I have.

Yes - it streams to my hearing aids - so much easier for me

yeah me and the wife do, we ditched our home phone nigh on ten years ago.

Yes, although it's mainly used for sending SMS messages and receiving calls (because I'm too tight to pay to make calls!)

My phone is used for taking instructions from Bestbeloved when I am out and about. My call credit is used entirely to retrieve messages when I am foolish enough to not answer the phone. £10 credit lasts me around three months.

That's almost I use it for, I send maybe 5 texts a month max, so when I need to speak to someone it the phone I reach for, and I only pick it up to use it not to to stare at it longingly like a cake, the most use it gets every day is as an alarm clock at lunchtime.
