Do you shoot in Jpeg or RAW

I'm forcing myself to shoot exclusively in RAW now to work on my post processing. Hard work which I'm sure will pay off in the end.

I shoot RAW because at the end of the day, there are very few disadvantages to doing so and they are hugely outweighed by the benefits IMO. I find it just as easy to process, yet vastly more flexible if needs be.

On occasion, Jpeg may be better and such cases I will use it but 99% of the time, my camera is in RAW mode.

I only shoot in RAW nowadays with the vesatility it gives me in processing.

raw...theres just so much to play with later, good shots look even better with raw, whilst bad shots are still bad shots whatever the format.

RAW as I shoot indoor sports with low light and high iso's. Shooting RAW also allows me to change the whitebalance.

I shoot RAW, it's just more convenient really. It means I can pick the photos I want to keep, work on them, store them all in folders in Lightroom and then convert any I want to put online or email to friends to JPEG.

I have never shot in RAW, i have never bothered because i dont edit my images at all, maybe just crop them but no alterations on anythign else.
Tonights task go out and take some RAW pics and see what it is like :D

RAW with a small Jpeg. I shoot a lot of panoramas and the Jpegs give me a quick stitch with minimum work. If I spot any worth working on, I use the RAW files.

Got to be Raw all the way....

It saves me when I have a blonde moment......

General Question to anyone - if you shoot Nikon raw, you can batch extract the embedded jpg using PreviewExtractor [saving card space, eliminating the need to shoot both and it works very quickly], but can canon users also do the same? As a Nikon User, this is just curiosity really.

I went from shooting only in JPEG, to JPEG and RAW... now its only RAW all the way :D

i only shoot in raw as it makes me look like i know what i am doing when people ask me what I shoot in :)

JPEG almost always.

Played with RAW and found that FOR ME the benefits weren't worth the extra PP time it took to convert etc. Tried a blind test and found that people preferred the JPEG to my processed image or couldn't choose between the two.

I've always shot RAW on my DSLR, but convert to DNG on import, so it takes up a bit less space on my hard disk.

I shoot mainly sports and still use RAW, I know I can get a burst of 6 shots (I think its around 20 in jpeg on the 20D) before the buffer fills up and I've never had a situation where I feel I'd have needed more...

Raw like Sushi for me

I came into digital from a film background - and in the early days (got my 1st digital camera in 1999) it felt like being given a print straight out of the camera - a little bit like taking your film to a high street processor.

When I first tried RAW it felt like processing my own negatives again.

As everyone has pointed out - there's just more options with Raw.

Just did a test on my Sony A700, shooting in continuous mode at f2.8, 105mm, 1/160 sec.

RAW: 20 continuous shots at 4/5 fps before it paused, very briefly, for the buffer to catch up.

JPEG: 85 continuous shots at 4/5 fps before I got bored as it didn't even slow down.

Lord knows how many JPEGs it will take before the buffer gets full, but I know I will never need even 20 continuous shots, so RAW is perfectly fast enough for sports, well for me anyway.
