Hello all,

I have got Photoshop CS3 amongst other Adobe products (elements/ligthroom etc) but never really had the confidence to use them to their full capacity.

This lead me to think that because im not an art person i wont ever be able to do it.

All this talk of blown out whites, HDR, contrast and white balance leaves me a bit out of my depth. I can understand it if i get shown it, but dont really think i can take a photo and make it perfect using Photshop without help.

Is it something i can learn thorugh time or is it a case of "if you're not arty then you aint gonna do it" ???

Spose i better start searching the guides forum !!!

The things you mention are technical issues. I think its perfectly possible for someone to be a good photographer without having a clue about arty things.

I can take a photo, just struggle to make it from a good photo to an excellent photo.
Its knowing what will make a photo look good by editing it in PS.

You can teach technical things like how to use the software, how to recognise a bad exposure and how to fix it. You can teach people how to fix shadows and highlights, and all sorts. You can teach them how to compose a photo. Can you teach someone how to be artistic? I think its something that each person needs to find themselves. Art is very subjective and it sometimes can't be explained, let alone taught.

Theres hope for my photos yet then.
It would be a interesting to get the same photo and let me and another who is very artistic and has the same level of PS to touch up a photo.

Well I'm happy to have a go if you like. As Pete said, art is subjective but i'm willing to take a pic you've taken and run with it to see if we have different perceptions on what we can achieve from it.

Aye.. i'd be willing to have a go at that too :)

Why not stick an image on here and challenge everyone to produce their interpretation, you will probably get some interesting results!

OK, i will start a new thread so everyone can have a go without having to read my dribble at the beginning.
