Hello all,

My indicator switch on my banger has fell apart , at first I thought no problem I'll get one from the breakers yard that will be £120 to £270 sir , mainly as the wipers/lights/indicators and radio ( I have a separate radio) are all controlled off the same switch assembly which is all one part with microchips and all sorts of none needed junk on it ( It's amazing how complex car manufacturers can make some thing which could be so simple £££££) As the car is worth no more than a few hundred quid this is not an option for a skinflint like me. My thoughts were I'll by pass the lot with a simple toggle switch left and right an old school two prong flasher relay and a light to show when it's flashing maybe even a buzzer costing me no more than a tenner using new parts and the miles of wire I already have. But do I need hazard lights for an Mot ? It wouldn't be much more complex if I do but as i don't intend to kkep the car

Thank all

'Vehicles first used before 1 April 1986 do not need to have hazard warning devices.'

As a general rule; if something is fitted, it should work.

Thanks Trevor, I had thought that to be the case I will have to mod my original idea to include the hazards. I have two cars one I use for my dogs ,mountain bikes ,fishing and general fetching and carrying anything likely to cause damage or is dirty and a small car for Mrs Badger and general normal use. At least if nothing else I have a little project !

Before you go to a lot of trouble ,time and effort go along to your friendly MOT tester ( or wherever you are going to take it )and make sure your mod will be acceptable and will meet the test standards.
