Forgive me if proper terminology would make this clearer to you guys, but I am a novice to photography (and old into the bargain)

A number of years ago, I remember seeing a dual function lens.
It mounted on the camera as a normal lens and could be swivelled in the housing to view though either side of the lens.

I do not mean swivel to get a 90 degree offset from the front of the camera (which is what was described when I searched for info on Google) but rather that the lens was rotated in its' sleeve so that the front of the lens became the back.

The lens would change from a fisheye lens to (I think - but am not sure) a magnification or fixed zoom lens.

If anyone has a better sense of what I am describing than I (not too difficult), I would like to know:

a) does such a thing still exist?
b) what is it correctly called
c) where can I get one

Thanks v.much and I hope this is posted in the correct place

Hi Rob

Not sure if this is what you mean? but, I remember using a Zenith E with a set of extension tubes and lens that could work as either a macro (close up) or telephoto set up, depending on the arrangement! ... Sorry, I can't remember the name either :)

I think you describe a tilt shift lens, checkout canon ts range. These are the only things I can think of but they don't flip right over.

I have been away.
Unfortunately, neither of your suggestions are quite what I saw. Thank you both, however, for responding.

The lens is mounted inside a tube fixed by 2 pins diametrically positioned to allow the lens to rotate about its axis within the tube.
The lens can be fixed or unlocked and rotated to be viewed from either direction (giving the same effects as viewing through it from either end of the tube)
The rotation is achieved by sliding and then twisting an outer sleeve which unlocks and rotates the lens through 180 degrees, whereupon it can be locked in place again.
The tube is, of course fixed to the camera as any normal lens would be fixed. I believe this device would be used in conjunction with a regular lens, being added to it.

Not quite the same as the tilt lens.
I do not have enough technical knowledge to make it clearer.
I am giving up. Thanks

You could maybe draw a couple of fag packet diagrams, scan and post them.. this is definitely a case where a picture would be better than a thousand words.
