Question is in the title.. I picked up a tamron 17-50 2.8 over the weekend from a member on here. It's nice and sharp and obviously covers the same range as a nifty fifty ie 50mm. Now the last time I used the nifty I shot at 2.8 as I wanted to get a full body (near enough) in focus. I found the nifty was sharp but zooming with my legs was difficult shooting people in certain situations (especially running far enough away to get a whole person in frame and then shouting instructions back to them! I'm thinking that the nifty will probably see little or no use now as I'll just leave the tamron on as it gives enough background blur and shoots nicely wide open and is just more flexible for shooting people and capturing moments quickly.

Anyone else found this or similar experiences? Shooting with a fast zoom over a similar focal length prime?

Ive been through this dilemma, and tbh you are better off keeping it.

You'll only get £50 for it if you sell it, it weighs next to nothing - so no harm in having it in your bag etc, its useful in a lot of situations.

I sold mine because I hardly ever used it. Then bought another one about 2 months later cos I missed it!

I would suggest keeping it, but upto you :)

I also have a 2.8 zoom lens, but the 50mm gets a lot of use

Always keep the nifty, especially if it's the 1.4 :D

Sold mine with some other kit when I upgraded to a better body+tamron17-50, in low light it was always seeking and the tamron was good enough at 2.8 for what I needed, depends if you feel the £60 you could get for it is better spent elsewhere.

Yes keep it, My 24-70 AF motor packed up at the weekend, just grabbed my 50mm and I am thinking of just sticking with that for now, I have started looking at shots in a different way, and it is a breath of fresh air too.
