Do I really need it?

I've currently got a Nikon 35mm f/1.8 and a Tamron 17-50mm SP Di II f/2.8 lens

I was wondering if it was really worth investing in a Nikon 50mm f/1.4 as I seem to take most pics on my Tamron around the f/4 mark.

I really want either the Nikon 80-200 f/2.8 AF-D or the 70-200mm f/2.8 (more than likely the first considering the cost!) so would it make more sense waiting to get one of these?

I'd like to have the 'nifty-fifty' of course but as I'm on a limited budget I'm not sure it would make much sense.

Any advice much appreciated

Firstly I'm a Canon Shooter and don't know the specifics of those Nikon thingies.

Having said that, the reason why you might want a fast prime is for helping to pop subjects out of the photo with a thin depth of field and/or shooting in very low light.

I would say just use what you have and save up for the 70-200 f2.8.

Part of me thinks you've answered your own question here, especially as you already have that focal length covered. Unless you really really want the lens, just save up for the 80-200
