Yes
just bought a light tent from ebay, and so obviously I'll need to light it.
Do I need to use daylight bulbs or will incadescent suffice?
I'm only asking since incadescent daylights are about a tenner for two and energy saving daylight are about 20quid for two. Sure its not the end of the earth but every little helps..

so couldn't I set two lamps up either side with incadescent or regular energry savers (my 20W General Electric Spiral 20p specials from Tesco - I swear to god these are better and give a more pleasing light source than regular incadescents) then manually adjust my white balance to the same kelvins as that shown on the bulb packet and save it as a preset?

Shooting to JPEG, using one of the white balance pre-sets will probably be fine. If not, just do a custom white balance by shooting a piece of plain white paper in the light tent - takes two seconds (see handbook). Forget setting Kelvins.

Shooting Raw, you can correct the colour in post processing regardless of the in-camera setting.

ok thanks for the tips hoppy..so thats a no then..I don't need to shell out on relatively expensive bulbs for my little hobbyist use  cheers

As long as all the lighting is the same type then you shouldn't have problems adjusting in post. Shoot raw and take a white balance test shot at the start with a grey or white target.
